Hebrews 8:1
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum; we have such a
high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the
heavens.
If the question was raise, what makes Jesus our high priest? The answer
is found in who Jesus is and what He done reconciling man back to God the
Father. Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God who was with God in the
beginning and became flesh as the final revelation of the Father. Jesus took on
the sins of the world by sacrificing His life for the life of many. He was the
perfect sacrifice that needed no atonement because He was the priest and the
sacrifice.
Jesus Christ is in heaven at the right hand of the Father making
intercessions for all believers. Jesus mediated a better covenant through His
shed blood, and with this covenant all believers have constant access to God
the Father. God the Father bestows His grace upon all believers through the
regenerating work of Christ (John 3:3).
Jesus as our high priest can sympathize with believers and will aid them
in any situation as well as help them to overcome their temptations (2:18;
4:15-16). We need His help because Satan is busy.
We can conclude then that by the works of Christ makes Him our high
priest who is Alpha and Omega; He knows all and supplies all our needs.
