John 1:29
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him; and saith, Behold the
Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
The setting for today's topical discussion is John the forerunner of
Jesus was baptizing in the Jordan River when
he saw Jesus coming to be baptized of him. John recognized Jesus for who He
was, the Lamb of God who was slain from the foundation of the world as the
perfect sacrificial lamb who would give His life as a ransom for many.
John has been telling his followers that one would be coming after him
who would take away the sins of the world and this person would baptize them in
the Holy Ghost (v. 32).
Water baptism is symbolic of the baptism that has occurred when the
person accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. The key ingredient is repentance
whether being baptized with water or with the Holy Spirit. Accepting Jesus as
our Lord and Savior all believers has a restored fellowship with God the
Father. Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God
has opened the door for all believers to gain access to the Father.
Jesus as the Lamb of God did what no human priests could do in that
Christ needed no cleansing from His sins; He had no sins. Jesus as the Lamb of
God established a more perfect covenant as God's holy laws are written in the
hearts of men.
Jesus is the perfect Lamb of God; honor Him with all our being.
