A Day of Reckoning: Amos 5:18; 6:1-14

Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! To what end is it for you? The day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.

In light of the chaos that is gripping our society in the form of hatred, bigotry, and meanness, I felt the need to encourage all that will come a day of reckoning by God, and every man will have to give an account for his/her actions. Let me encourage all to come together in love and peace. We are all members of God's human race, and He loves us all the same.

Our focus scripture is taken from the prophet Amos issuing a dire warning to Israel's nation to change her ways because there will come a day when God's judgment will rain down like water. When that day comes, there will be no hiding place from God's wrath.

Chapter six of Amos depicts the sinful conditions of the nation Israel and Judah as they were prosperous and failed to honor God. Their prosperity caused the country to drift into worldliness and refused to repent despite the prophet's constant warning.

Just as the Lord punished Israel for her failure to repent and turn back to Him, He will do the same today to all who fail to turn back to Him. God is a jealous God and will not tolerate sin in any format. Even though God is longsuffering, He punishes sin. When the day of reckoning comes, many will cry out to the Lord, and "He will say depart from Me you workers of iniquity."

Let me encourage all, the day of reckoning is coming; are you ready to face His judgment? If not, then turn to the Lord and be saved. If saved, then heaven is your reward.
