Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a
sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel.
As we prepare for the celebration of Christ's
birth, it is only fitting that we reflect on the prophecy made by the prophet
Isaiah centuries before his prophecy was fulfilled.
The prophet Isaiah predicted that God Himself
would send a Savior and provided the name-Immanuel which means God with us. In
Isaiah's prophecy, additional details of Christ's birth were given such as His
birth would be a holy conception to a virgin. Christ would have God as His
Father by way of the Holy Ghost came upon Mary, and she conceived.
Another school of thought is that many had heard
of the promised Messiah and waited patiently for this prophecy to be fulfilled.
Isaiah, in his prediction, was encouraging the promised Christ that He would
come as promised by God the Father. The people were to have hope and faith as
they waited for the coming Savior Jesus Christ.
Christmas morning we will see the fulfillment of
God's promise of sending His only begotten Son into the world to be the Savior
of the world. A promise made; a promise kept.
