John 15:4-5
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch
cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you
unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in
Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
Our scripture texts explain how one is to live
in union with Christ; by abiding in Christ as He is the vine and all believers
are the branches. The two must remain connected as the branch cannot survive on
its now.
Abiding in Christ the person is establishing
an intimate relationship with the Lord, which is what the Lord desires. A tree
branch will remain alive as long as it remains connected to the vine, but that
connection is severed, then the branch dies. This principal is true for the
believer and Christ. This is because Christ is our supply line and without
Christ supplying all our needs we too will wither and die.
We remain connected to Christ through His Word
by daily scripture reading, meditating on the Word and then daily prayer. Those
who are bearing fruit sometimes get pruned to bear more fruit, which is doing
even greater things for the Lord.
Are we connected to our supply line? Can the
world identify us as godly fruit because of the fruit we are bearing?
Living in union with Christ the world will
know what fruit we are.
