Acts 9:15
But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way for he is a chosen vessel unto
Me, to bear My name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel.
The setting for today's message is Paul's conversion and God sent Ananias
to restore Paul's sight. Paul's reputation of persecuting Christians with the
blessing of the priest had preceded him. Paul's encounter with Christ changed him
from a persecutor to a recruiter for Christ. The Lord was assuring Ananias that
Paul was no longer that person persecuting Christians, but now a chosen vessel
of Christ who was chosen to carry the gospel to the Gentiles, kings and the
children of Israel.
Being a chosen vessel of Christ, Paul and other vessels of Christ do
great things in the name of the Lord and for His kingdom. History records the
many adversities Paul encountered for proclaiming Christ, but he never waivered
in his devotion to Christ and Christ's message.
Believers, we are chosen vessels of Christ who have been commissioned by
Christ to proclaim the good news of the gospel the world over. We may encounter
difficulties for being a chosen vessel, but Christ through His Spirit is
present with us.
Another school of thought on being a chosen vessel of Christ is that all
believers were selected and chosen by God from the beginning of time because He
knew who would accept His spiritual invitation and then walk in faith doing His
will.
As chosen vessels of Christ all believers are lit candles shinning the
light of God's glory in a sin darken world.
