Suffering For Christ’s Sake: 1 Peter 5:10KJV
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, makes you perfect, stablish, strengthen, and settle you after that ye have suffered a while.
What is our scripture saying to you
and me today? Our scripture text says that, yes, Christ suffered greatly for us
so that all who believe in Him will have everlasting life; therefore, our
suffering is pale compared to the blessing that God the Father has in store for
all who believe.
God called all who believe because
Him, all-knowing, knew who would hear and adhere to the call of salvation
before the beginning of time. By His grace, He, God the Father, has called all
believers to eternal glory through the atoning work of Christ Jesus.
Yet, in our suffering, we become
patient because patience has a way of settling (relaxing in God and His peace)
us in the timing and strength of God. In our suffering, we can do nothing but
wait on God for His deliverance out of our adverse situation.
God delivers because He is a God of
compassion, grace, and mercy. Through His son Jesus Christ, God delivered all
believers from the damnation of sin and shame.
Yes, we suffer because the world
hates us for being associated with Christ and His righteousness. Take heart;
our suffering is not in vain; therefore, we glory in our suffering.
