Romans 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die, but if through the Spirit
do mortify the deeds of the body, yet ye shall live.
What is the meaning of this verse? The
apostle Paul is reminding believers of his day and for generations to come of
the spiritual warfare that rages within our bodies. Believers are in a constant
battle between right and wrong; good and evil. Paul used himself as an example
of this warfare by stating that the things he should do he doesn't and the
things that he does he shouldn't; this is the way it is with all of us.
We make this
claim because sin is always present and are competing for control; without the
help of the Holy Spirit believers will lose the battle every time. The question
now becomes, how do believes win this warfare? Believers win this battle by
yielding control of our lives to the indwelling Holy Spirit. This is
accomplished by deciding yes I surrender all to God-the Holy Spirit so that I
can live holy unto the One who saved me from eternal separation.
It is
noteworthy to say, as believers yield control daily to the Holy Spirit believes
draw closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In doing so a strong personal
relationship is developed between Christ-the vine and the believer-the branch.
Let's close
today's discussion by saying; yielding control of our lives to the Holy Spirit
believers put to death the misdeeds of the body.
The powerful
work of the Holy Spirit convicting sin.
