Psalm 37:3

Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

In Tuesday's discussion we discussed faith and its pivotal role in salvation, but today's focus is trust. With that being said, these questions come to mind, Do you trust God in all situations? Are you taking God at His word when He asks us to cast all our cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7)? Have you ever been in a situation and there were two sets of footprints in the sand and as the situation became worse there were only one set of footprints and you asked God why did He leave you only for Him to answer "my child I carried you the rest of the way." If so this proves that God will never leave nor forsake His children. It is far better to trust God than man. God is trustworthy; He changes not and cannot lie.
Trust in God who never fails.

Faith And Salvation

Romans 10:9-10, 17

So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God

Much have been written and discussed regarding faith and its essentiality to salvation and the Christian life, but for today's discussion our focus is on the word, work, and walk of faith.
Let's examine these three perspectives of faith;
(1) The word of faith is the hearing of the gospel of Christ and believing that Christ is God's Son who died for the sins of the world (you and I) and on the profession of that faith/belief we then are saved. How does one hear the gospel message? The gospel is spread through preaching, teaching and witnessing Christ (Acts 11:14; Matthew 25:18-20).
(2) The work of Faith is the convicting work of the Holy Spirit who convicts the unbelieving heart of the need for salvation and the promise of God that all believers will be partakers in His divine nature-righteousness (2 Peter 2:4). Christians then are born again into the body of Christ through His atoning work and convicting work of the Holy Spirit.
(3) The walk of faith is made possible by the word and work of faith which allows all believers to walk this Christian journey (2 Corinthians 5:7). How is this so? The Christian prospect must first hear God's Word then believe in his or her heart what he or she has heard while allowing the Holy Spirit to have His way, and then the faith walk journey begins.
Without faith there is no salvation.

Unwavering Faith

…..Peter answered Him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me to come unto thee on the water. And He said Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sin, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Today's discussion depicts what we can do with just a little faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. The moment our faith wavers we begin to sink and need saving, but we must cry out to the Lord like Peter and Christ in His unwavering love for us will immediately extend His saving hand catch us from our drowning situation.
With that being said, the boisterous winds can be likened to life's many challenges that we will face and especially while on this Christian journey. Many of life's challenges will shake us to our very core, but we must remain steadfast in our faith and keep our eyes focused on Jesus for we are never alone.

Sin's Condemnation

Mark 5:25-30

..A certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched His garment. For she said, If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be made whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus immediately knowing in Himself that virtue had gone out of Him, turned Him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

In a comparative look at the woman's physical condition in our scripture text to that of sin we see the following:
a) Her physical condition was a blood disorder that the doctors had failed in their attempts to heal. Sin is a spiritual condition that can only be healed by Jesus.
b) The woman's blood disorder had condemned her to death, because it grew worse. Sin condemns us to death and grows worse if left unchecked.
c) When the woman heard of Jesus she had confidence that He would and could heal her of her condition. Jesus can and will heal anybody who seeks Him in faith and with a repentant heart.
d) Upon touching the hem of Jesus' garment her blood disorder was completely cured; the same is true of all unbelievers who touches the hem of Jesus' garment in faith they are cured instantly of their sin disorder.
e) The woman knew in the consciousness of her mind and body that she was healed; the same applies to sin and the unbeliever.
The woman had a strong desire to be healed of her condition, so must all unbelievers; seek Jesus in faith and be healed of your sinful condition.

The Holy Spirit

Acts 1:8

But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Who is the Holy Spirit and what is His purpose and the reason? The Holy Spirit is God in the third person who was promised by Jesus Christ as He was preparing to return to heaven, and on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:2-4) He came and three thousand souls was added to the church. His primary purpose is to give power to witness Christ the world over as He lives in each believer. This power isn't physical power but authoritative power to continue the mighty work of kingdom building through the believer's witnessing.
Being empowered with the Holy Spirit's power believers can boldly witness Christ beginning in our own Jerusalem and continuing until every lost soul has heard the Word and have the opportunity to come to Christ and be saved.
Believers, we have great power in the Holy Spirit.

God's Love

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

If someone told you that John 3:16 is the sweetest story every told what would you say? Would you say explain how so? Let me explain the story from a love point of view in that God's love is so great that it included all humanity-whosoever. His love is the source of our salvation. God loved us first when we didn't love Him (1 John 4:19). His love causes forgiveness. Lastly, His love caused Him to sacrifice His only Son Jesus Christ who became the human sacrifice to pay humanity's sin debt. What love!
God asked humanity to do one thing, believe in His Son and doing so God gave two promises (1) we would not perish and (2) we would have everlasting life. What a promise!
Given the blessings of salvation I don't have an argument that John 3:16 isn't the sweetest story ever told.
The sweetest story and a true story-God's love!

Fruit Of The Spirit

Galatians 5:22-25

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance, against such there is no law, And they that are in Christ have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

In Tuesday's discussion our focus was being empowered by Christ, but today's focus is a continuation in that the spirit of Christ lives in us manifests spiritual fruits for the world to see Christ in us. Our discussion text outlines the ingredients for living a spirit-filled life.
Comparing the lifestyles of the non-spirit filled person to persons living a spirit-filled life we see two different lifestyles. Non-spirit filled lives consists of strife, idolatry, envy, emulations and etc while a spirit-filled life that is one that is in harmony with God. There is no law against such living as God's law rules supreme. This brings a question to mind; if you are a believer which lifestyle are you living? Being empowered by Christ we have the ability to live a spirit-filled life.
A spirit-filled life is portray in motion.

Jesus The Christ

John 20:31; 1:29; 4:42; 28:20 Matthew 20:20; 8:8; 16:16; Isaiah 9:6; II Peter 3:18

Today's discussion answers the month-long discussion which was focused on the titles associated with Jesus as Christ our Savior; therefore, let's close our discussion with the following titles for Jesus, and they are:
¨ Jesus as the Son of God: All who believe that Jesus is the Son of God have life everlasting as the believer have accepted Him as his or her personal Savior (John 3:16).
¨ Jesus as the Son of Man: Jesus is portrayed as the Son of Man because He was both God and man. Jesus as the human sacrifice atoned humanity's sins. Jesus fulfilled all requirements as He was sinless as a man but fully God. The phrase "ransom for many" includes all mankind I Timothy 2:5-6).
¨ Jesus as the Lamb of God: It was Jesus' death that provided for the removal of sin, its guilt and power it has over the unbeliever. Jesus was slain from the foundation of the world in that God the Father knew His Son would have to sacrifice His life for sin.
¨ Jesus as Lord: What makes Him Lord? Simply because it is Jesus who provided salvation through His death, burial and resurrection. All must confess his or her sins and believe within their hearts that Jesus is Lord having power, dominion and authority over all.
¨ Jesus as Savior: The word Savior means one who saves and Jesus fits the requirements because of what He did on man's behalf.
¨ Jesus as God: The belief that Jesus is God is the foundation of all Christian beliefs as scripture identifies Jesus as God's Son who came as God in the flesh. Jesus as God is the second person in the Godhead.
¨ Jesus as the Christ: The term "Christ' means the Anointed One, the true Messiah anointed as God's Son who was chosen for an important purpose-providing salvation to all who believe on Him. Jesus is the Christ as He is the Savior of the world anointed from the beginning of time for just such purpose.

Christmas mean Christ because without Christ there would be no honored celebration, no salvation nor hope for tomorrow-everlasting life.
Jesus is the Christ.

Wo Is Jesus?

In our month long discussions of the titles for Jesus as we have discussed several; however over the next two days we will conclude our topical discussion of Jesus' titles. Today's focus is Jesus as Prophet, Mediator, Wonderful Counselor, the Word, the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Jesus as Prophet: Luke 13:33 portray Jesus as the Prophet who came out of Jerusalem and Jesus lamented over the conditions of Jerusalem and their stubbornness to accept God's gift of salvation.
Jesus the Mediator: I Timothy 2:5 states "For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." Jesus was the Mediator who bridged the spiritual divide between man and God. It was through His sacrificial death that covers man's sins that we as believers can come boldly to God's throne of grace.
Jesus as the Word: John presents Jesus as the "Word" of God who was made flesh to live among men as He was present with God in the beginning. Being the "Word" Jesus relates to God Himself, humanity, and the world as it was through Jesus Christ that the world was created.
Jesus as the Way, the Truth and Life: Again John 14:6 tell of just who Jesus is in relationship to our salvation. No man can come to the Father accept they enter by Jesus because it was Jesus who shed His precious blood to atone our sins.
Jesus as Wonderful Counselor: Isaiah prophesied of the coming Messiah who would have the world on His shoulders. Jesus as our Counselor comforts when the need is there. He delivers us from the many snares we find ourselves in. He wipes away tears and He provides for all our needs and cares.

Jesus The High Priest

Hebrews 3:1

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus.

The term priest is one who speaks or relates to God for the people of ones self, whereas a prophet speaks to the people for God saying "what thus saith the Lord." Moses, Jeremiah and Isaiah are examples of prophets in the Old Testament who spoke to the people for God. The office of the priest in the Old Testament was from two major lines and they were Aaronic (Exodus 28:1) and Levitical (Hebrews 7:11; Leviticus 6:2-5). The priests of the Old Testament made sacrifices to God for the people and even taught them the law and they entered into the holiest of holy place in the temple or tabernacle to met with God (Leviticus 4:26; Ezekiel 42:13-14; Luke 1:8-11).

What makes Jesus our High Priest is that His one-time sacrifice cleared the way for all believers to enter God presence and this can be done as often as we the believer feels the need. Jesus' sacrificial death removed to the need for repeated ceremonial sacrifices made by the priest and they themselves had to get right with God before making atonements for others. Jesus had no sin to atone for because He is God in the second person and is holy. Jesus as our high Priest continues to make intercessions for us to God. Lastly, when God looks at sinful man He sees the righteousness of His Son because through Christ's blood our sins have been pardoned.

Jesus our high Priest because He paid our sin debt.

The Chrief Shepherd

I Peter 5:4

And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

In a previous discussion we discussed Jesus as the Good Shepherd, but today's focus discussion is on Jesus as the chief Shepherd. If there was any doubt as to why Jesus is the chief Shepherd let's reflect on a few of Jesus' qualities that makes Him the chief Shepherd. First, He is the head of all and in all even the first born form the dead. Second, He is the head shepherd as He is God's Son who was in the beginning with God and all things that exist were mad by Him. Third, He is the head of the church as it is His bride and He will return one day to take her to heaven with Him. Jesus being the loving, caring Shepherd that He is has a crown of glory as a reward waiting for His people.
While Christ's church remains in the earth His under shepherds (pastors, apostles, evangelists, teachers and prophets) have the responsibility of feeding His people the word while guarding over their souls. These leaders are to possess a Christ-like spirit as they represent the Chief Shepherd-Jesus Christ Himself.
Jesus Christ is the chief Shepherd caring for His people as a loving father cares for his children. He is God.

The Good Shepherd

John 10:11

I am the good shepherd, and the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep

Today's lesson study is the fourth in our study series of the names associated with Jesus. Herding sheep was a popular occupation during biblical times and the shepherd's responsibilities was to care for all the sheep's needs this included their safety.

In a pictorial description of Jesus He is pictured as the Good Shepherd; therefore, when Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd who willingly laid down His life for the sins of the world. What Jesus is really saying is that "I love mankind to the point of death. I came into this world to die so that all who believe in me shall have everlasting life (John 3:16). I am the way back to God the Father in bridging the spiritual divide caused by sin. I provides for all man's needs as I rock them (mankind) to sleep each night and tenderly wakes them each morning". Jesus as the Good Shepherd displays His tender love and devotion to His people--believers.

Jesus describing Himself as the Good Shepherd coincides with Psalm 23:1 which states, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want", which means Jesus' presence is near at all times providing, loving, and protecting as we His sheep go about our daily activities. The remainder of Psalm 23 describes the qualities and responsibilities of the Good Shepherd-Jesus Christ.
What makes Jesus the Good Shepherd is His uniqueness in being God-man as He was in the beginning with God and through His virgin birth He became humanity for the purpose of making a one-time atonement for sin.

Jesus as the Good Shepherd is a comforter when needed, a warrior in time of battle and most of a Savior as all mankind needed a Savior. What a Good Shepherd who came to give life more abundantly for all who believe (John 10:10). Have you come into the fold of Jesus Christ relying on the everlasting protection of the only shepherd who has no beginning and no ending? Jesus the Good Shepherd-God's Son and man's Savior.

The Chief Cornerstone

Ephesians 2:20

And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone;

When we look at the name Chief Cornerstone for Jesus what come to mind? Do you see a chief cornerstone as the head of something, a sure foundation? Is the chief cornerstone something/someone from which everything rests? Do you see the chief cornerstone as being reliable as there is no failure in the head? What comes to my mind is that Jesus is the foundation of all life as all that exists has its beginning and ending in Him. This includes both physical and spiritual life in that all who have accepted Jesus as his or her personal Savior is assured of spending eternity with Him. When I look at Jesus as the Chief Cornerstone I see Him as my personal Savior who knew from the beginning of time that I would be born and in need of salvation. Jesus the Chief Cornerstone as He is the one who meets all my needs and loves you and I unconditionally.
What makes Jesus the Chief Cornerstone? Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone because He was present during creation and will be present when all who persevere to the end will see Him. He is the written Word as His is God (John 1:1). Jesus is the one who bled and died on the cross for the sins of the world as He was the only one found worthy to meet God the Father's requirement to atone sin. Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone because He is the firstborn from the dead. All who believe in Jesus died to sin with Him and was raised with Him to live forever. Jesus is the only one who you and I can take all our problems to and get an answer.
Another point on Jesus being the Chief Cornerstone is because Jesus is the foundation of the church and all churches who have Jesus as its foundation have committed themselves to following the doctrines of the New Testament teachings and revelations concerning Christ and the gospel (Acts 2:42). It was Jesus who established the New Testament church as He told Peter and the rest of the twelve disciples that Peter's faith confession that "He is the Christ" is what Christ's church were built and not even the gates of hell would be able to destroy His church. What a foundation!
To reject Jesus as the foundation is rejecting Jesus as Lord (John 16:13-15; 1 Corinthians 14:36-38; Galatians 1:9-11). This holds true for all who fails to accept Jesus as Lord of his or her life.
Let's close this discussion by saying Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone as there can be no surer foundation in which all things are built--physical and spiritual.
Any house that is built on Christ is solid.

Jesus The Bread Of Life

John 6:35

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life; he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

What was Jesus saying to His audience and all who have a need for spiritual food? What Jesus was saying to His audience is that just as man needs physical bread and water to sustain ones physical life spiritual bread and water is a necessity for spiritual survival and Jesus is the spiritual sustainer. Also Jesus' statement of Him being the bread of life further authenticates that He is the incarnated Christ sent from God the Father to provide the way back to our heavenly Father.

Jesus reminded His Jewish audience of their forefathers who ate manna from heaven and is now dead (v 49), but all who eat of His body shall live forever. Why simply because He is the "Bread of life" (v 48).

The question becomes, How do we eat and drink of this spiritual food? Verse 54 provides the answer, which is by believing in Jesus Christ and accepting Him as our personal Savior and sharing in the redemptive benefits of Christ's death on the cross (Romans 3:24-25; 1 John 1:7) and all believers will be raised with Him in the end. It is noteworthy to say that all believers remain in fellowship with Christ and His word through daily Bible reading as it is the written Word of God (1:1-5); therefore, believers eat of His flesh through the written Word of God and obeying His Word (v 63).

It is worth mentioning that we are saved by God's grace and the Holy Spirit's regenerating power when we first hear God's Word and adhere to the Word. Our salvation continues through our reading, obeying and absorbing the Word's truth in our hearts (1Timothy 4:13-16; James 1:21).

Jesus the bread of life, what a spiritual food provider!

Jesus Alpha And Omega

Revelation 21:6

And He said unto me, It is done, I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the foundation of the water of life freely.

As we head into the Christmas season, I felt led by the Holy Spirit to begin a brief study of the names/titles that is associated with Jesus according to scripture. Some of the names we will be focusing on in the coming weeks in addition to Jesus as Alpha and Omega are:

(a) The Bred of life, (b) The Chief Cornerstone, (c) The Good Shepherd, (d) The Chief Shepherd, (e) the High Priest, (f) the Prophet, (g)Mediator, (h) the Word, (h) the Way, (j) the Truth, (k) life, (j) Wonderful Counselor, (l) the Son of God, (m) the Son of Man, (n) Lam of God, (o) Lord, (p) Prince of Peace, (q) the Son of God, (r) Savior, (s) God, (t) the Christ.

Looking that the above names associated with Jesus and ask this question, What do these names teach us about Jesus our Lord and Savior. It is my mission to end these discussions with a unanimous agreement that all names associated with Jesus points to Him being the Christ the incarnated Son of God.

In today's discussion our focus will be Alpha and Omega which tells us that Jesus is the beginning and ending of all things. The other point to be made on Jesus as Alpha and Omega is that He was in the beginning with God as He is God and the world was created by Him (John 1:1-3); therefore Jesus had His beginning long before His virgin birth. It is noteworthy to say that God used the spoken Word in creating everything that was created both seen and unseen (Colossian 1:16); therefore, when John presented Jesus as the eternal Word of God authenticates Genesis 1:1. It is also noteworthy to say that the Godhead, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit were present during creation as the Holy Spirit had an active role in creation as He is seen as "moving" over creation (Genesis 1:2) preserving and preparing creation for God further creative works/activities.

Let's close today's discussion by saying, Jesus was in the beginning (Alpha) and He will be present in the end (Omega) when all God's children who have dranked form the foundation of eternal life will spend eternity with our Savior.
What a blessing it is to have a God who has no beginning and no end! Glory to God!

Thanksgiving, Esxpressions Of Gratitude

For this holiday celebration these questions come to mind, How will we express gratitude of thanks to the Lord for all He has done and continues to do in our lives? Will we come before the Lord with song of praise while acknowledging who He is and recognize that He rules over all? Will we let adversities or difficulties we maybe experiencing hinder our thanksgiving of praises to the Lord? Will we say, "in spite of all I am going to praise God for His goodness and mercy all the days of my life because "His mercy is everlasting and His truth is endureth for all generations" (v. 5)? Whether we praise God in private or public He is worthy of all praises for He is good and He never fails. God is our creator and it is God who sustains us in good and in difficult times.
Let all who has breath praise the Lord for He is worthy of all praises.

Sing Praises To The Lord

Psalm 34:1-3
I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth…O magnify the Lord, with me, and let us exalt His name together.
As we approach the Thanksgiving season join me in singing praises to the Lord for just being who He is and His goodness. Let's magnify the Lord with praises like never before as He is worthy and because of His goodness we can shout songs of praises because we have victory. Yes we have victory because the Lord of host is mighty in battle and His wonders are to behold and they are majestic for all to see and say Yes the Lord of host is like none other. The Lord of heaven and earth is worthy to be praised!

The Lord in His goodness has dispatched His protective angels who are encamped around us protecting us when we are not aware of their presence. All who reverence the Lord He has promised to protect His own and promises God keeps. So, why not sing praises to His holy name?

Other reasons to sing praises to the Lord is that He protects us, provides an abundant life, He redeemed our souls from sin and Satan, He delivers us when we cry out to Him and hears our prayers, He is a comforter when in need and provides for all our needs. What a mighty God!

Praise Him! Praise Him! Praise Him! Let all who has breath praise the Lord.

Thank God For His Goodness

Psalm 92:1-4

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High; To she forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.

There are numerous reasons to be thankful to the Lord for His goodness as one can look no further than God waking us up each morning with His internal alarm clock and we have movement in our limbs and are in our right minds is enough to say "thank You God for another day." Each morning when we rise from our beds of slumber and sleep is another opportunity to tell somebody about the goodness of the Lord. He provides for all our needs both seen and unseen. God's grace is as fresh as the morning dew each morning when we rise to the dawning of a new day. It is God's grace and mercy that keeps us as we slumber and sleeps each night as the Holy Spirit has us cradled in His love of protection. Just those two are enough to sing praises to His holy name and He is worthy of even more praises given what the Lord has done in providing salvation to all only if you believe.
Thank You Lord for all that You has done and continues to do and Yes I will sing praises to You holy name.

Ephesians 6:18

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Oftentimes we begin an endeavor, such as a called to the ministry or even a new occupation an even starting our own business, and if we do not have a dedicated resolve when obstacles come our way we tend to give up. Just as Christians are encouraged to persevere in our Christian walk we must do likewise in our daily activities whether business, ministry or job occupations.

In every endeavor we are sure to face obstacles, but we must persevere if we are to succeed in the undertaking endeavor. Obstacles come our way for different reasons, such as being tested to see just how deep our resolve is in the endeavor. What one must do is recognize the obstacle as a test and say "I will persevere unto the end." If God has called you to the ministry or open the door to a new opportunity He wants to see if you are committed to obeying His call or grateful to His blessings. See, God knows your limits and He steps in right on time. Job remained committed to God even when his wife wanted him to give up on God. Paul persevered in spite of his many afflictions, being beaten and jailed for preaching Christ.

Let me close by encouraging all to persevere to the end because "a quitter never wins and a winner never quits" (author unknown).
Perseverance holds the key to victory.

Seeds Falling On Good Soil

But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some and hundredfold, some sixth, some thirty.

Today's discussion topic focuses on the different kinds of soil where God's Word (seeds) will be planted (vv. 1-22). Our discussion verse looks at the good ground where God's Word is planted and how it takes root and grows and the growth that comes forth from His Word is in the thousands and hundred of thousands. What this tells me is that God's Christian warriors are committed to preaching Christ even if it takes them to the remote parts of the world. This is obedience to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).

The other fact in this verse is that regardless of Satan's efforts the Gospel is being spread and people are coming to Christ by the thousands and the impact if being felt in numerous ways. Entire nations are hearing the Word of God and many are coming to Christ as the Word is being preached. Young children lives are being impacted by hearing and accepting God's Word and they too are joining God's kingdom. Through the preaching of the gospel of Christ, many who had no hope now live with a new found belief and hope in Christ Jesus and are accepting Him as Lord and Savior. Thanks to modern technology in aiding in spreading the gospel of Christ.

Allow me to close this discussion by encouraging all of us to stay on the wall for God because He has listeners who are eager for the gospel of Christ to be preached and they want eternal life.
Pray on, preach on and teach on because God's Word is taking root.

Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you; I am the Lord….What? Know ye that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own (6:19)?

I felt led to raise some questions regarding tattoos because I see a very large segment of our population has at least one tattoo. With that being said, these questions come to mind, What are the real reasons for the tattoo? What are you advertising? Has it ever occurred that at some point it will be made public that the die used in making tattoos is harmful to the body? Has it ever occurred that the human body is beautifully and wonderfully made as God does not make junk? Do you believe that all humanity was created in the image and likeness of God and He breathed the breath of life into us and we became a living soul (Genesis 1:26-27; 2:7). Being that God breathed His breath into man He lives inside of us through the Holy Spirit (Ghost) and God cannot and will not live in an unclean temple. Did you know that your body is the temple of God? (1 Corinthian 6:19). Did you know that you were bought with a price the precious blood of Jesus Christ our Lord? Therefore, our bodies are to glorify God because we belong to Him (1 Corinthians 6:20).
It is noteworthy for me to say that the above questions are designed to do the following (a) to raise awareness of ones actions, (b) for the person to weigh the consequences of his or her actions, and then (c) answer why am I doing this? Is it because it is popular or is it because Satan has clouded my judgment? Whatever the reason or the answer to the above questions, God loves you and so do I.

Jesus And The Holy Spirit

Today's discussion focus is on Jesus and the Holy Spirit and His activities in each scenario.

First, we will answer the question, Who is the Holy Spirit. He is God in the third person and was active in creation as He is seen as "moving" (Genesis 1:2) over creation, preserving and preparing it for God's further creative activity. With that being said, the Holy Spirit and Jesus were present during creation as John 1:1 declares Jesus as the Word of God who was in the beginning with God and all things were made by Him. Two of the gospel writers explicitly declare that Jesus came to this world through the miraculous deed of God the Father and He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary (Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:27). Jesus is the prophesied Messiah God's Son.
Second, Old Testament prophets prophesied about the coming Messiah-Jesus that He would be empowered by the Holy Spirit. This prophecy was fulfilled during Jesus' earthly ministry.
Third, the Holy Spirit was present during Jesus' baptism. He made His appearance in the form of a dove who descended on Jesus' shoulder (Matthew 3:16-17). It was at Jesus' baptism that all members of the Godhead were present; God the Father, God the Son Jesus and God the Holy Spirit.
Fourth, the Holy Spirit was with Jesus during His stay in the wilderness while being tempted by Satan (Luke 4:1-2). The Holy Spirit empowered Jesus giving Him the power to withstand Satan's temptations.
Fifth, Jesus being both human and divine, in His humanness He was anointed by the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel to the poor, mend broken hearts, set free the captives by preaching deliverance and give sight to the blind (Luke 4:18). In Jesus' humanity, He relied on the power of the Holy Spirit who enabled Him to live a perfect sin free life.
Sixth, the Holy Spirit came as promised by Jesus after He ascended back to heaven. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to boldly witness Christ the world over (Acts 1:8; 2:1-4). On the Day of Pentecost three thousand souls were saved.
Seventh, it was through the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus was raised from the dead thereby vindicating Him as the true Messiah.
Eight, Jesus is near His people through the indwelling Holy Spirit who leads, guides, teaches and brings into memory all things. He also makes believers aware of Jesus' love, blessings, help, forgiveness and healing powers. Also, the Holy Spirit draws the believers' hearts closer to God through prayer and worship in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).
It can be concluded then that the Holy Spirit is an active force in the lives of all humanity and has been since creation and will continue until Christ returns and establishes His earthly kingdom. The Holy Spirit convicts hearts and bring the convicted heart into the realization the need for salvation and Jesus is the on who saves all who believes.
The Holy Spirit is God in the third person.

Led By God's Sprit

Romans 8:14

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

If the question were raised, Why is it important to be led by the Spirit of God? God's Spirit lives in each believer to lead, guide, instruct and protect us.

In each of the Holy Spirit's functions has a specific purpose in the lives of all believers, and they are (a) the Holy Spirit leads believers by prompting believers to do God's will and mortify the deeds of the body/flesh (v. 13) and oppose sinful desires that can and will cause the believer to stumble. (b) He guides believers to live in harmony with God's Word and His instructions are designed to teach us how to live according to God's Word. God's Word is designed for reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). Believers are to live according to God's righteousness and standards. (c) God's Spirit will aid the believer in persevering in faith and protect believers by warning them of Satan's hidden snares that will result in the believer falling away. Lastly, God's Spirit protects believers from all hurt harm or danger as He sees what's ahead.

Believers are led by God's Spirit by allowing Him to become an integrate part of ones lives through daily scripture reading, meditating and applying God's Word to ones daily life as well as desiring and valuing the manifestation of His presence.
Yield to God's Spirit as He leads the way.

Revelation 14:14-20

And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.

What is the meaning of these verses? The phrase "like unto a man" represents Jesus Christ Himself who is preparing to reap the harvest of the earth. Some popular beliefs is that in verses 14-16 represents God's wrath on the earth while in verses 17-20 is a different harvest because it make mention of another angel. God's harvest of judgment is the greatest as it will be His judgment on all who followed the beast as described in chapter 13. The grain harvest in this section is the great end-time harvest of salvation (Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43).

Verse 19 further explains the judgment that will take place during this time as it talks about the great winepress. From Biblical OT reading the treading of grapes is used as an illustration to express how the execution of all unbelievers by God Himself. They will be cast into the Lake of Fire for eternal damnation.

What all this means is that all believers who have remained steadfast to Christ will be included in the grain harvest and will rule with Christ when He establishes His kingdom on earth.

The Lord's Supper-Communion

Today's topical discussion takes another look at the Lord's Supper which is commonly referred to as Communion. Partaking of bread and wine is in commemoration the night Christ and His disciples were eating before His betrayal. They were eating the Passover meal and "Jesus took the bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins" (Matthew 26:26-28).
We know that Jesus came to earth to be man's propitiator through His shed blood on the cross of Calvary. We also know that man's sins had to be forgiven before man's broken fellowship could be restored and Jesus was the only sinless person who could atone for the world's sins. Jesus' death on Calvary's cross made forgiveness possible. In order for forgiveness to be received, true repentance, having faith in Jesus Christ and confessing ones sins.
With that being said, What symbolism and importance does the bread and wine have in your life? Bread and wine symbolizes the death and resurrection of Christ as the source of spiritual life for each believer and the Christian church as a whole. The bread represents the broken body of Christ's life in the redemptive sacrifice He paid. The blood represents Christ's blood or the bruising by the divine wrath of God, which Jesus Christ took on because man lacked the ability to die for his sins; as God had found the whole world guilty (Romans 3:10-18). In a word, bread and wine represents the sacrifice of Christ's life. As a memorial to Christ's death it is the believer's renewed obedience to the will of Christ while acknowledging that our salvation rests solely on Christ's broken body and His shed blood.
The question now becomes, How must one partake in the Lord's Supper? According to scripture, all those participating in the Lord's Supper must be regenerated by grace and that the communicant must be living a life consistent with the commemoration of Christ's death. It is also noteworthy that each participant examine his or her faith before participating in the Lord's Supper (1 Corinthians 11:27-29). Also, our scripture verses states that communicants living obedient lives while refraining from deliberate sins opens one self to a more intimate fellowship with Christ (1 Corinthians 11:28).
Allow me to close today's discussion by summarizing the significant of the Lord's Supper as it relates to the past, present and future.
1. The past significance is the remembrance of Christ's death in redeeming all who believe from the condemnation of sin.
2. The presence significance is the fellowship with Christ and a participation in the benefits of His sacrificial death on the cross at Calvary.
3. The future significance is the foretaste of God's kingdom and His heavenly banquet feast prepared for all believers (Matthew 8:11; 22:1-14; Mark 14:25; Luke 13:29; 22:17-18; 30; Isaiah 55:1).
Given all that Christ has done for mankind the question is worth repeating, How are you partaking in the Lord's Supper? Is it in true faith, with a repentant heart, sincere prayer and a renewed commitment to God, His Word and will? However it is, He is worthy of our best and total commitment.

Revelations From God

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him; The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory in his inheritance in the saints,

The term revelation mean to uncover what was hidden or making known the unknown (Romans 16:25). God has revealed Himself through His written word-the Bible and His Son Jesus Christ who was the final revelation of God the Father. With that being said, Paul's prayers for the Ephesians believers is that God through His spirit of wisdom and revelation make known just who He is and His will and purpose for His people. It is important that all believers know the will of God and His redemptive purposes for salvation and to experience a more abundant power of the Holy Spirit in the lives of all believers (vv 19-20).
Each believer has been given a specific calling in Christ's church and with the revelation of the gift through the Holy Spirit and His power then believers become more effective in the believer's ministry building God's kingdom. As recorded in Acts 1:8 we receive power to boldly witness Christ with such effectiveness that souls will be saved. Another important factor in receiving revelations from God is that believers come to know that God has outfitted each with His body armour for this spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:11-18).
God reveals His will and purposes for man.

The Importance Of Biblical Training

And these things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
To answer the implied topical discussion question of why is Biblical Training so importance there are several reasons that come to mind such as one cannot teach what one doesn't know neither can one lead where one doesn't go.

However, our scriptures texts provide the answer in that what one has learned of God must be shared with others so they too will have a firm foundation in the Apostles and New Testament doctrines. We hold to the fact that the Bible is the final authority as it is God's holy word that was written by inspired men of God (v. 16). Also, verse 15 records why we are to study to show ourselves approved unto God's Word as His approval of our works are superior to that of man. It is important for the trainer/teacher to know God's Word so when training others they too can and will rightly divide the word of truth. When the truth of God's Word is taught the hearer/student will have a firm foundation on which to stand thus preventing them from being swayed by false doctrines.

With that being said, the church has the responsibility of training current and future believers in the truth of God's Word so that believers both now and new converts can and will live accordingly without compromise or becoming corrupt by society's way of life. If the question were raised, Where should Biblical Training occur? It should occur in the church, home and school. Biblical training becomes more effective when taught in all three institutions. Therefore, Satan wouldn’t have a fighting chance.

Let us look at some of the benefits derived from Biblical Training, and they are
1. Biblical Training entrusts the gospel of Christ to believers so they may know the truth, guard against false doctrines, and teach others the truth and knowledge regarding God's righteous standards (2 Timothy 3:15, 2 Timothy 1:14, 2 Timothy 2:2; Romans 6:17).
2. Biblical Training instills in believers the necessity of contending for the faith to deflect Satan's fiery darts of wickedness and all false doctrines that will be encountered (Acts 20:31; 1 Timothy 4:1; 1 Timothy 6:3-4; Titus 1:9).
3. Biblical Training lead students in continual growth in Christ and a better understanding of God's Word and godliness (1 Timothy 6:3; Matthew 28:20; Psalm 1:2-3).
4. Biblical Training strengthen the believer and promotes Christian maturity to other believers as the current believer reflects Christ-likeness, and thereby the overall church grows (Ephesians 4:11-16).
5. Biblical Training motivates students to commit themselves to evangelizing to others/lost souls in obedience to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).
6. Biblical Training brings students into a deeper understanding of God and His kingdom and the spiritual warfare that all believers are engaged in (Ephesians 6:10-18). It also deepens the believer's/students experience of Christ's love, develop a personal fellowship with Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit's presence as the student/believer has been baptized in the Holy Spirit (John 17:3, 21, 26; Ephesians 3:18-19). It also teaches believers/students how to pray, fast and worship God with all sincerity (Matthew 6:9, 16; 2 Timothy 4:8; Titus 2:13).
We can conclude that there are many benefits to be received from Biblical Training as it is vital to Christian growth and kingdom building. With that being said, let's continue teaching.

Genesis 18:22-23

And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom; but Abraham stood yet before the Lord. And Abraham drew near, and said, With thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

The background of today's lesson study is that sin and wickedness had become so prevalent and perverted that God was going to destroy the entire city of Sodom. Abraham a righteous man who was very concern for his relative Lot and other righteous so much so that he went to God in prayer asking Him not to destroy the entire city (vv. 22-23). God answered Abraham's prayer by sparing the city and destroying the wicked that was within the city.

From our illustration, an intercessory prayer serves specific purposes made by God's people. With that being said, then our intercessory prayers serves a purpose in that God-fearing believers pleads with God to turn aside His judgment (Genesis 18:22-23). Intercessory prayers help to restore God's people (Nehemiah 1; Daniel 9). Intercessory prayers deliver individuals from danger (Acts 12:5, 12; Romans 15:31); also, intercessory prayers are prayed to bless God's people (Numbers 6:24-26; 1 Kings 18:41-45; Psalm 122:6-8). There are intercessory healing prayers (1 Kings 17:20-21; Acts 28:8; James 5:14-16), prayers for the forgiveness of sin, Christian growth, for the Holy Spirit's power to come, effective leadership and ministry work, salvation of others and for people to offer praises to God.

Therefore, intercessory prayers are both powerful and purposeful; prayer warriors-pray on because your prayers are making a difference.

Results Of Unified Payer

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth…And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Two factors are at work in our lesson study, and they are (a) the promise of the coming Holy Ghost/Spirit as Christ followers were gathered together in one place on one accord praying. God kept His promise of sending the Holy Spirit so that Christ's earthly ministry could continue winning souls for Him. The second factor at work here is that the Holy Ghost came and manifested Himself in three ways; (1) audible, (2) visual and (3) speech manifestations. The results of this group of believers, they received power to boldly witness Christ, drive out demons, and anointing to heal the sick. Believers today have the same power to boldly witness Christ the world over so lost souls can be saved.

Bold witnessing power weren't just given to believers during the time of Pentecost, but to all who come together in unified prayer with a sincere heart for God and to do His will. It is noteworthy to say that as prayers of the righteous come together in unified prayers things change. Just as Daniel (9:3) prayed for the sins of his nation so are believers today praying for the conditions of our nation and the world.

Effective Prayers

…I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

If the question were raised, What make for an effective prayer? The best answer to the question is that one must first believe with sincere faith in what we ask God our Father for that He will grant our request. Our scripture text supports this answer as expressed by Jesus Himself. To further authenticate that faith holds the key to effective prayers is stated in Mark 9:23, "All things are possible to him that believeth." Allow me to clarify something on the "all things" phrase is that the prayer of faith must be based upon the will of God; meaning not "asking amiss" (James 4:3).

As stated in Hebrews 10:22 that we draw near to God in prayer with a true heart in full assurance of faith is another ingredient to effective prayers. What this is saying is that faith is necessary in coming to God in prayer and believing Him for His goodness (Hebrews 11:6). God plants faith in the hearts of faithful believers who live faithfully according to His will. Another ingredient to effective prayers is never waver in our faith (James 1:6 cf. 5:15).

To conclude this discussion on effective prayers is to say that we must believe in sincere faith, align our will with God's will, and ask in Jesus name (John 14:13-14).
Faithful prayers are effective prayers.

Purification is the process of making clean or removing corruptible; in today's discussion the focus is on purification of man by the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

Let's look at what Jesus' blood did in the purification process; first His blood was shed on the cross at Calvary to redeem us from all wickedness as it cleanse us from all the negatives brought on by sin. While in this state of mind we had a desire to deify God's law and His holy standards (1 John 3:4). Once the believer is redeemed, sanctified, and justified those desires changed from disobedience to obedience. Also, there is a heart-felt love and devotion to God as well as a desire to live to please Him by being living sacrifices unto Him.

The second act in the purification process was to make us a holy nation that is separated from the world and its systems. We became a people consecrated to God as His own possession. As a consecrated people we have the seal of the Holy Spirit who keeps us in the family of God. In purification we become a holy people who will stand and tell the world "yes I have been born again."

Thanks God for Jesus and His precious blood that cleanse my soul from sin and iniquities and have washed me wither than snow.

Is Prophecy Being Fulfilled?

Revelation 1:3; Isaiah 1:3-4

While listening to NBC world news on last evening and the segment concerning the staggering costs from this year's natural disasters alone is in the billions and the cost from hurricane Irene alone is 1 billion and counting. The fear that FEMA would deplete its allocated funds that covers these disasters; Congress has allocated additional funds to cover the costs of these disasters for now. What going to happen when winter come and the storms that is associated with the winter season?

I raise the above question in light of the many natural disasters that have occurred this year in the USA as well as having red books and magazines on prophesy, The Trumpet Magazine, The Prophesied End-Time and some of Nostradamus prophecies. The Trumpet magazine raised the awareness on such times as these and that these natural disasters would occur so rapidly until they would deplete our resources. Who can forget the devastation from hurricane Katrina and ask has this area been fully restored? How long will it take for places like Joplin Missouri or Alabama, Mississippi or Georgia and will these places ever be restored? What is the human cost of these tragedies?

Other issues that were raised in this magazine were that this country was founded on godly principles which overall we have gotten away from. Also, this country was once a proud and powerful nation revered by all, but not any more because we have forgotten our creator and sustainer and become wise in our own deceit.

The overall prophecy is that this country will fall because we have broken our covenant relationship with God and He states very plainly in scripture that He is a jealous God and we are not to have any other god before Him (Exodus 20:3,5). So, what have we done? We have disobeyed His commandments. We have destroyed His institution of marriage. Several states have sanctioned same sex marriages and this is not of God. When God instituted marriage it was between man and woman, not two men or two women. There is a great falling away of the church (2 Thessalonians 2:3), because many are being deceived. We see greed on every hand; a murdering spirit is raging across these United States. The less fortunate is being taken advantage of when God made provision for the poor and needy (Amos 5:12-14; Matthew 6:1-4). We have placed our understanding before God's; we have a rational answer for everything when Proverbs 3:5-6 encourage us to trust God and refrain from depending on our understanding.

Allow me to close today's discussion by saying, there are many who feel that the rapid occurrences of these natural disasters are the evidence of God's anger and there are numerous us who are praying constantly for the healing of this nation (2 Chronicles 7:14). While God is longsuffering, He does get angry. Join with me and others as we continue to pray for the healing of this nation for we know that prayers changes things.

Lastly, prophecy maybe fulfilling, but thanks be to God He is in control. We are never out of His reach and His love surrounds us.

But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the world.

The writer, Luke explains what happens after receiving the Holy Ghost (Spirit) and the power in which believers will perform the task of witnessing and where. Believers will be baptized in the Holy Spirit to effectively witness Christ to the entire world as they will witness with such boldness as never before.

The Holy Spirit gives believers the power to witness about the righteousness and truth of Christ in both words and deeds. Additionally, the believer has a personal testimony of the saving power of Christ and the convicting work of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Believers can testify of the personal presence of Jesus and the intimate relationship with Him. Through this personal relationship with Christ, believers can also testify of the love for and of God and the desire to live holy unto Him and honor Him as the believer become more Christ-like.

The reason for witnessing is to carry the message of Christ to a lost world so that the unsaved can be saved. Being saved is the result of witnessing the good news of Christ. What is the good news? Christ's death, burial and resurrection. Just look at what God done for us; therefore, stand up and be a witness for the Lord.

Witness! Witness! There is power in witnessing Christ.

The Grace Of God

Psalm 84:11

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

In an earlier discussion "Growing In God's Grace" was discussed and it was determined that God's grace is His unmerited favor that we didn't deserve. However, in His grace we share in His holiness, we experience His love and compassion, protection and He provides salvation through His Son Jesus Christ.

Today's lesson text support the findings of God's grace as it can be expressed as love in action. The Lord being a "sun and shield" is saying that God's glory shine brightly in all and through all who have decided to live in obedience to His righteousness. All believers have a right standing with God through the atoning works of Jesus Christ. The Lord protects "shield" His obedient children from all evil and wickedness that we will encounter.

The last phrase of our lesson text is directed to believers who have decided to live godly and righteous lives before Him. This allows His purposes to be fulfilled in our lives. If the question were raised, What is our responsibility in receiving God's grace? Believers' task is to walk upright before the Lord, then trust God to provide for all our needs, physically, spiritually, temporarily and eternally. God is faithful to His promises and His mercy endureth forever (Psalm 23:6).
God's grace is sufficient.

Unity Among The Brethren

Ephesians 4:3

Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace

The focus of today's discussion is unity among believers as this unity is patterned after the unity of the Spirit-God's Spirit. Unity among the brethrens is made possible through the indwelling Spirit of God. Just as the Godhead operates in perfect togetherness so must the body of Christ-the church. There is unity among the brethrens because of the oneness of God; one faith, and one body. Each member has his or her distinct calling for the edification of the body of Christ (vv 4-5, 12).

It is noteworthy to say that God in His divine wisdom made provisions for any disharmony that may arise by instilling His Spirit in each believer to bring peace. God is a God of peace, love and harmony not confusion. Therefore, each believer is to operate in the Spirit of God thus assuring unity as we witness Christ to a dying world. Allow me to say that neither human efforts nor organizations can bring unity among the brethrens without the Spirit of God. With that being said, all churches operating in harmony has God as its head and His Spirit as its guide.
Church, we have our example for unity-the Godhead.

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of Good, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

If the question were raised, What is holy living? Let's answer the question by saying holy living is living according to God's standards and His righteousness. This is because it is by God's standards by which all humanity will be judged. Isaiah 64:6 states in part that "all our righteousness is as filthy rags."

However, our righteousness is in Jesus Christ who shed His blood to give all believers the right standing with God the Father. Another point to holy living is that believers can live holy in that we have been sanctified by God as a called out people to live in holiness to Him. Holy living is achieved by daily Bible reading, mediating on His Word and with the aid of the Holy Spirit believers has the ability to refrain from conforming to this world and its standards. The world's standards are contrary to those of God. Therefore, all believers are mandated by God to live in holiness.

Living in holiness the world will see Christ manifested in each believer as we are lights shinning in a sin darkened world. As we submit ourselves to God's ways we grow in our faith walk with Christ.

Holy living requires a willing heart and a humble spirit.

Safety In God

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him will I trust. Surely He shall deliver thee from snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust; His truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day.

As we approach the tenth anniversary of 9/11 when tragedy struck our shores; this day will always be remembered for the deviant act by those who made a decision to bring hurt and harm to many who didn't know them nor who would have purposely sought to destroy them or their country and countrymen. As I sat and watch in horror as those planes flew into the twin towers I couldn't help but wonder what was happening as many other Americans asked the same question. This cowardly act brought America together in many ways. Prayers were being prayed, heartaches were being felt and acts of kindness were being shared, but through it all we (Americans) have withstood this cowardly act as measures are taken to ensure safety.

Leaders and those who protect our borders and provide many other forms of safety are to be praised for their efforts. We know that evil still exist and many are still trying to wreck havoc on us and this is not of God. We know for certain that overall America is a God-fearing nation and reflecting on our scripture text we know that true safety is in God. As we continue abiding in the secret place of the Almighty we can be assured of safety from His almighty wings. Why, because He is our refuge and fortress. It is noteworthy to say that prayers of the righteous availeth much and I know for certain there are prayer warriors who are praying for peace and safety the world over. Just as God transcends all boundaries so does prayers.

Lets pray, LORD thank You for Your protective angels that You have dispatched to watch over us. For this I say thank You. In Jesus name Amen.

God's Workmanship

Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Reflecting on this weekend's holiday, I wondered how we value our work efforts and ethics in both secular and the Christian Community. This reflection took me back to my days of teaching in the public school system where I was a substitute teacher after having spent years in secondary education. The public school system was a culture shock to me. In other words I hated this job not realizing at first I was placed in this position by God to be a blessing to others by imparting life experienced wisdom and knowledge. I was blessed by others as well. After asking God for strength to adapt to my new surrounding the job became easier.

What am I saying? I am saying that God places each of us in positions for His designed purposes. As stated in our scripture text we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works and glorify Him. Before we were created He knew where each of us would be place to give Him glory and honor whether in the secular or Christian Community.

The question that comes to mind is how are we to serve? We are to serve with diligence and a willingness that pleases God as each of us is making a contribution to the strength, prosperity and well-being of others, self, communities and our country in both arenas.
Each position is an honored one selected by God-so serve well.

Believers' Spiritual Warfare

Ephesians 6:11-18

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Christians are in a spiritual warfare against Satan and his army as this spiritual conflict is known as the warfare of faith (v. 12). God knew that whom He called to be His servants that the battle lines were drawn in the sand-earth and He prepared His warriors for battle.

If the question were raised, What is the believer's battle armour? God dressed His warriors with the helmet of salvation, He girded our loins with truth-His truth as this is the only truth that will stand against Satan and his attacks. God covered His warriors with the breastplate of righteousness as this is His righteousness by which all mankind will judge. Believers' feet are shod with the gospel of peace as believers are to carry the gospel of Christ to a lost world. Believers are outfitted with the shield of faith so that we can withstand all Satan's fiery darts of wickedness that is designed to shake our faith. The last piece of body armour given by God is His sword-the Bible which is His word and with this offensive weapon we take the fight to Satan and his demonic schemes.

In the believer's warfare we remain in constant communication with our Commander-in-Chief-God through constant prayer.
Believers, fight on because we have victory.

Spiritual Separation

2 Corinthians 6:16-18

And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hast said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

If the question were raised, Why must Christians separate themselves from the world? The answer is simply as stated in our scripture text that we are the "temple of the living God" and God has no dealing with idols. Also, believers are the dwelling place of God-the Holy Spirit who cannot and will not dwell in an unholy place. Most importantly, this is a requirement of God as He is holy and all believers are to be likewise-holy.

With that being said, then separation is required because righteousness and unrighteousness cannot co-exist in the believer. Man is no match for sin in his own strength, but with the aid of the Holy Spirit believers have the power to live righteous lives before God and refute worldliness. On the other hand all believers who refuse to separate him or herself from sin loses fellowship with God (2 Corinthians 6:16).
Believers separate yourselves; God lives in you.

God's Anger On Display

Romans 1:18-32

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;….when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imagination, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

In light of the recent natural disaster that occurred in a place out of the norm according to man, but these occurrences are under God's command and control as the Bible spoke of such occurrences in different places and times.

Our scripture text makes a profound statement of why God's anger is on display because of sin and unrighteousness. God is revealing His anger from the heavens in many different ways, such as torrent heat, storms, sand storms, earthquakes, tornados and hurricanes. In a sailor's terminology God is sending warning shots across the bow of humanity and if we fail to get His message and repent, then judgment is certain. His judgment is going to be swift and harsh because God cannot and neither will He continue tolerating the ungodliness we see in today's society. Get right and adhere to God's warning.

Scriptures has recorded for our benefit of God's actions against prolonged sin and wickedness; remember the flood during Noah's days. These questions come to mind, Do we feel the Bible is just a love story? Do we believe the events actually occurred as written in the Bible? Do we in today's society feel we are exempt from God's judgment? Has self-wisdom caused us to become foolish in our own thinking believing that the natural disasters are just the forces of nature? Nature is under God's control too.

Let me close this discussion by saying, God is angry; it's time to repent and turn back to God.

Humnaity God's Unique Vases

Job 10:8

Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about….

Pondering what to write for today's discussion, I took a reflective look at nature and compared humanity to the many species of flowers with the array of colors so beautifully arranged in God's flower garden-earth.

All humanity is God's vase as each of us is uniquely shaped to display His glory as we are the clay and He is the potter (Isaiah 64:8) for we are shaped to be a blessing to others as we are blessed (Genesis 12:2) and implanted with His love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). We are commanded to love one another as Jesus have loved you and I (John 15:12). Consider the peace and harmony that each flower exist in God's flower garden so must mankind.

All humanity is shaped to smile at God (Isaiah 35:1) as He smiles on each of us daily with His many blessings. Notice how nature (flowers) smiles at God each day as He provides for their needs. He provides for all our needs as well. Each flower serves a specific purpose for God; humanity likewise. Lest we forget that mankind was created in the image and likeness of God; therefore, we posses the character traits of our heavenly Father. Display them!

Let's close today's discussion by saying God made room for humanity in His flower garden, let's make room for God in our house-lives. Therefore, live to glorify God as we are His beautiful array of flowers meticulous planted in His garden.

Live In Holiness

1 Kings 2:4; Psalm 119:33-40

…If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel.

Today's discussion is an adaption from this month's devotional where our overall theme for the month is God's chosen leaders where we have looked at several of His leaders and their character which is to say they walked closely with God.

If the question were raised, How do one live in holiness? The writer of 1 Kings, David encourages all to take a careful look at your lifestyle and stake heed to it and then walk in true holiness by obeying God's commands. David learned this painful but valuable lesson of walking closely with God as it opened the door to God's blessing and His truth. When David failed to walk according to God's commands he suffered, but David would go to God in sincere prayer and with a repentant heart asking for forgiveness.

You and I today can live in holiness by living according to God's Word as we have God's Word the Bible and the indwelling Holy Spirit as our guide. It is noteworthy to say that holy living requires a willing heart and a humble spirit; in doing so we give honor and glory to a Sovereign God.
The world will see God in you through your holy living. Live holy!

God Promises A New Heart

Romans 11:26; Ezekiel 36:26

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.

In Tuesday's discussion we answered the question Can these bones live, for today we will look at God's promise to Israel of a new heart one that will become soft as flesh and one that will cause a change in direction that is focused on Him. The promise of a new heart depicts both a physical and spiritual restoration for the nation of Israel and believers under the new covenant, which was established by Christ (Jeremiah 31:31-34).

A new heart was necessary because God's people had turned their backs on Him forgetting all that He had done for them. Their hearts had become waxed cold as they were doing all manner of evil in God's eyesight so much so God referred to them as dry bones (Tuesday's discussion).

However, we see God getting ready to make a change in the people's condition as His prophet were to preach His Word and He would do the rest, which was a heart transplant one which obeys His Word and walk according to His statues.

Why a new heart because it is the epicenter of all man's actions either good or bad. With this new heart and God's spirit living within people will be saved, both then and now "all Israel/believers." Why? Because when God's Word is preach it has a positive effect on the hearer.
A new heart one that is obedient to God.

Can These Bones Live?

Ezekiel 37:1-14

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley, which was full of bones.

Our topical discussion today is focus on Ezekiel's vision where God used an analogy of dry bones to show the depth of the nation's sins. Ezekiel was to preach God's Word to a sinful nation who had become so sinful until they were likened to dry bones in the valley. God asks Ezekiel "can these bones live?" God knew the answer because He knows all and His prophet would obey His command to preach even if the people were as dry bones.

The vision continues to the conversation between God and Ezekiel with instructions been given to preach and God would cause the bones-people to hear and repent (v. 5). In verse 6 we see Ezekiel preaching and the results is flesh coming on these bones-people coming alive by hearing God's Word and repenting.

This scenario brings these questions to mind, given the magnitude of today's sins can our nation be considered a valley of dry bones? Are we listening to God's preachers? There is power in the Word of God; it brings a spiritual healing from ones sin sickness. There is salvation in His word. There is joy in His word; there is peace in His word.

Preachers preach because these bones can live and the valley of dry bones becomes a valley of living souls.

God Call Special People For A Specific Service

Judges 17:6

In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

The spiritually depraved conditions that existed during the time of this scripture writing is a direct result of what happens when Israel and man as a whole turn from God.
The book of Judges records Israel's history when there were no king and "the cycles of apostasy, foreign oppression, servitude, their crying out to God in their distress and His deliverance through leaders anointed by His Spirit" (KJV Commentary). This is the period of the judges where God anointed special judges to lead His people. God chose judges who were spirit-filled and would obey His commands.
God in His compassionated mercy is ready to forgive and deliver them from adverse situations and conditions. The need for deliverance is the result of men doing what they perceive as right which is normally wrong in God's eyes (2:11; 4:1; 6:1; 10:6).
The spiritual apostasy that existed during this period in Israel's history is prevalent in today's society. This is because man is doing what he thinks is right according to his understanding and is overlooking God's laws.

It is noteworthy to say just as God called special people to speak a word for Him in biblical times He still has special people preaching His Word to heal our land.
Believers, be a leader of one and tell a dying world about a risen Savior.

A Praying Nation

Ephesians 6:18

This nation was founded on godly principles with God as its first love; somehow between then and now we have forsaken the Lord and have replaced Him with other gods. God is a jealous God and will not tolerate other gods before Him.

Conditions in this country are turning people back to God. These conditions have become so perilous economic, climatic and spiritual until there is a call for a national day of prayer this Saturday. Some that are spear-heading this call is political leaders. Needless to say many in the Christian Community have been praying for a healing of this nation and people turn their hearts back to God.

The point of this discussion is that those prayer warriors who constantly make intercessory prayer that God is answering and as more of this nation's leaders and laity see the need for prayer and turn back to God our nation can and will be healed. Conditions will change economically, physically and spiritually.

Join with me and others as we continue to pray for the healing of this nation.

Believers Have Eternal Life

1 John 5:1, 11-12

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him…And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hat not the Son of God hath not life.

Our scripture text makes it very plain the reward for believing in Jesus Christ as our Savior, which is eternal life. Eternal life carries the benefit of living forever in the presence of God. To have this eternal life one must first come to Christ by genuine faith that He is God’s Son who came to earth to die for the sins of the world. The other connotation is love for God as all believers are begotten (born) of the Father-God. Love is a necessary commodity in this relationship because God first loved us when we didn’t love Him. With that being said, then faith and love are inseparable commodities in being born of God. The question now becomes, How does one get this love? Romans 5:5 provide the answer by stating that believers receive God’s love from the Holy Spirit who is God.
Allow me to say that eternal life has an intertwined relationship as the believer abides in Christ He abides in the believer (John 15:4).
Eternal life is in Jesus Christ abide in Him.

know The Will Of God

Isaiah 53:10

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
The Will of God is sometimes defined as the law of God, sometimes referred to as His perfect will and sometimes referred to what God permits or allows to happen, which is often time referred to as His permissive will (KJV commentary P 1066).

Let us look at the Will of God and His law as it relates to His instructions for man's godly living. Theses instructions can be found in His Word-the Bible. The Ten Commandments are perfect examples of God’s law as they are designed for us to live by.
The perfect Will of God is what He desires for His people. His perfect will is that all mankind be saved (1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9); although He knew that many were not going to be saved as they will refuse to hear and adhere to His word.

Lastly, the permissive will of God is what He allows to happen as He made man a free will agent; meaning man has the right to choose salvation and spend eternity with God or refuse salvation and spend eternity separated from Him. The continuance of sin is God’s permissive will and He will eradicate sin at His appointed time.
We know God’s will through studying His Word and responding to His Word.

Regeneration

John 3:3

….Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God;

Regeneration is the spiritual rebirth for all believers as this is the foundational teaching of the Christian faith. Our scripture text tells us that without regeneration we cannot see the kingdom of God; therefore, regeneration is necessary for the believer to enter into God's kingdom.
Why is regeneration necessary? Let's look at the following:
1. Prior to regeneration we were all sinners and were spiritually dead because of sin (Romans 6:23) and lacked the ability to live for and pleasing to God. The regenerated believer has been freed from a life of bondage because of sin to a life of spiritual freedom where heaven is now the believer's final destination.
2. Regeneration represents a repentant heart one that have turned to God as there has been a transformation (Romans 12:1-2). Regeneration restores a broken fellowship between the believer and God; therefore, the regenerated believer can now live in obedience to God and His commandments.
3. The regenerated believer have accepted Christ as his or her personal Savior (v. 16) and His atoning works and now have the indwelling presence of God-the Holy Spirit residing in each of us to aid in our faith journey.
Rebirth is a new beginning; have you had your new beginning today?

The Redeemed

1 Peter 1:18-19; Titus 2:14

The term redeem means to buy back, to free from something or someone, or to pay a price for (1 Chronicles 17:22; Galatians 3:13), but for today's discussion we will focus on Christ's redemptive work on behalf of mankind. Christ's death on the cross at Calvary paid our sin death which freed us from the bondage of sin where we were destined to spend eternity separated from our creator God the Father. Thank God for Jesus Christ and His atoning work that freed us so that all who accept Jesus Christ as his or her personal Savior have spiritual freedom as our destination has changed from eternal separation from God to eternal life with God. What a difference?

Titus 2:14 tell us that Christ shed His blood on Calvary's cross for these reasons (1) We are redeemed from all wickedness which changed our desire to defy God to one of obedience to God, which includes living according to God's holiness. (2) Christ redeemed us so that we become holy and a peculiar people who have separated him or herself from the world and its wickedness. (3) Lastly, the redeemed become members of God's royal priesthood as we are sons of God.

Let the redeemed of the Lord sing praises unto His holy name because we have been bought with the precious blood of Christ-our redeemer.

Justified By His Grace

Romans 3:24

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus;

What does it mean to be justified in Christ Jesus? It means that through God's grace and Christ's death on the cross all who believe have been found not guilty of his or her sins. This is because when God looks at His children He sees the righteousness of Christ in us.
All believers' justification is grounded in Christ's finished work at Calvary and it is through His redemptive blood that believers are made right with God. Our justification by God is directly related to His forgiveness of our sins (Romans 3:23), and Christ's atoning death and resurrection (Romans 3:25) and we have been given eternal life (Romans 6:23; 8:1-3).
Therefore, our justification cost God His Son and Jesus His life in redeeming us back to the Father, but thank God for Sunday morning and a risen Savior-Jesus. Our Savior is now seated at the right hand of the Father making intercessions of us.
I am free, I am free, thank God I am free! Christ's atoning works has freed me from sin.

Faith Walk

2 Corinthians 5:7

For we walk by faith, not by sight:

Hebrews 11:1 provides the definition of faith and the entire chapter gives us testimonies of old patriarch saints who lived by faith which was their belief in Jesus Christ. Therefore, in short the definition of faith is our trust in God in every situation or another way of expressing faith is our belief in God. However, I like to define faith as seeing the invisible as though it was visible, which incorporate Hebrews' definition.
What is the morning message? Simply trust God in every situation while seeing the invisible as though it has manifested itself in the natural. This is because God will work things out for our good (what is best for us) in His time. Simply ask Him for strength to endure and with Holy Spirit's power residing within we can persevere. We are never out of God's reach, there is not situation He can't solve and His presence is always near. So, walk on in faith.
Faith the size of a mustard seed we can do great things.

Expressions Of Gratitude

Jonah 2:9; 2 Corinthians 4:15' Isaiah 12:5

Let's begin today's discussion with these questions, How do you express gratitude for what the Lord has done in your life? Is there daily praises of thanksgiving for Him waking you each morning and allowing you to have activities of your limbs, clothed in your right mind? Do you stop and say thank You Lord for Your deliverance? He provided salvation-deliverance. God delivers us form every sticky situation. How thankful are you?

Continuous praise is the order of the day for He is worthy to be praised.
Allow me to continue raising questions to reflect on our expressions of gratitude with the following questions. Are you like the ten lepers whom Jesus healed and only one returned to say thank You (Luke 17:11-18). Have you ever stopped to think what would happen if God turned off His air condition or shut off the air that is ncessary for all life? Life as we know it would cease to exist. Lord, thank You for Your grace and mercy which endureth for ever and for that I am grateful as all of the redeemed of the Lord say so (Psalm 107:1-2). Do we say like Jonah 2:9, I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that I have vowed-salvation. It is noteworthy to say that the more we offer praises to God He showers us with more blessings. Isn't God good?

Let's close this discussion by saying, I don't know how you praise God, but for me I join Isaiah 12:5 in saying I will sing praises unto the Lord, for He hath done excellent things and this is known in all the earth (partial paraphrase). I will praise You early in the morning and late at night.
Praise God! Praise God for He is worthy of all praises!

Godly Leaders

John 10:11

Today's discussion is taking a reflective look at the character traits of God's godly leaders whom He strategically placed to lead His people and declare His Word. For example, Moses walked closely with God until God called him friend. We know David was a man after God's own heart. King Solomon was a wise man, Nehemiah totally believed in prayer and before undertaking his assignment he prayed and Jeremiah was so concerned about the nation's sins until he wept. Peter, James, John and Christ other disciples left their respective occupations to become fishers of men. What about Paul? Paul preached Christ regardless of his situation, condition or even if he was prison bounded.

The question now becomes, What do God's leaders have in common? The commonality among all God's called leaders both then and now is their love for God and obedience to their assigned tasks (calling). Godly leaders are the under shepherds and Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd and His leaders are to emulate Him. Just as Christ cares for His sheep godly leaders have this same character trait. I am reminded of the phrase that says "how beautiful of the feet of those who preach the gospel of Christ."

This question begs an answer, Are all godly leaders' pastors? No because there are many other leaders who are not pastors, but is being used by God to carry forth His message of salvation to lost souls of this world. God's Word is being shared.

Let's conclude today's discussion by saying today's godly leaders has dedicated his or herself to carrying God's message to a sinful nation because we know that the God in us is greater than the "god" in this world. Join me in prayer for all godly leaders, pray for our strength as we remain obedient to God's call.
Godly leaders are a precious commodity.

God's Standards VS Man's

Exodus 20:1-17; Deuteronomy 5:6-21; Proverbs 3:5-6

Thou shalt have no other gods before me…Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

Today's discussion is the result of my daily scripture reading and observing the humanistic changes that is occurring in today's society. Reflecting on our scripture text, it appears as though man has totally forsaken God our first love. This inspired me to ask the following questions, What happened to obeying the Ten Commandments, which are God's laws for all mankind. This country was founded on the godly principle "In God We Trust". What happened? Are we making our own human understanding the supreme ruler and authority over what's right and wrong? Are we denying the existence of God? By our actions are we saying that we know best? Is this nation following in the footsteps of ancient Israel when they disobeyed God's laws?

The first law of the Ten Commandments forbids taking any other gods before the Almighty God this includes man himself. The remaining commandments are what man is to live by and not his standards. When man disobey God's commandments, then destruction occur. What are some of the ways man is disobeying God's commandments? Man is failing to honor and obey God by failing to make Him first in our lives. Man places a greater value on material wealth and human thinking than God and His righteousness, His provisional care and salvation for all who believe. There is an attempt to remove God's name from many documents such as our currency and the Pledge of Allegiance. Same sex marriages are on the increase as they are being sanctioned by many states in these United States. Marriage is an institution implemented by God between man and woman, not man and man or woman and woman. How will God judge man's actions?

God will judge man by His righteous standards. God's way is best as He is holy and righteous.

Joshua And The Israelites

Joshua 1:2, 5

Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel….as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Our lesson study is one set in time where Joshua is taking over the leadership role of God's people to lead them into the Promise Land. God gave Joshua a promise of His presence just as He was with Moses. Therefore, Joshua and the Israelites had nothing to fear under Joshua's leadership for two reasons, (a) Joshua walked closely with Moses all those years and had learned from him, and (b) Joshua was a God-fearing man even though he needed reassurance from God. The promise made to Joshua applies to all believers today as we have His abiding presence through the Holy Spirit.

It is noteworthy to say that the Promise Land typifies God's spiritual inheritance and salvation in Jesus Christ, but all believers must fight the good fight of faith to enter into God's eternal rest (1 Timothy 1:18-20). Just as Joshua and the Israelites entering into the Promised Land was predicated on their faith and obedience so it is with NT believers. With that being said possession of the land (God's inheritance) rests in His presence, power, and faith in His promises.

Faithful believers have a blessed promise from God.

Servants Kept By God

Revelation 7:3

Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, not the trees, till we have sealed the servants of God in their foreheads.

To set the tone of today's discussion, in chapter 6 the sixth seal being opened and the events that were occurring during this time. In verses 12-17 speaks of the signs in heaven that John saw, verse 12 speaks of the great earthquake that appears to shake the earth to its very core. The great earthquake is viewed as God's judgment on the earth and is a preview of the events that is described in chapter 8.

There is such upheaval in the earth until the ungodly that are left here on earth cry for the mountains and rocks to fall on them for protection. This reflects the cry of the ungodly during Noah's day when the people refused to repent and ahead to God's Word.

Chapter 7 expresses God's desire that no hurt, harm or danger come to the earth, trees, nor the sea until He has put His seal of protection upon His people. This chapter is viewed as an interlude between the opening of the sixth and seventh seals, which talks about God's protection on all the faithful believers during the tribulation. Those included are both Jews and non-Jews. What does this say about faithful believers before the tribulation? Just as God declared His protection on those faithful believers He protects us today who will stand firm on His Word in delivering His gospel.

Believers, we are God's servants and we are kept by Him.

God's Provisional Care

Genesis 45:5; Romans 8:28

What is meant by God's provisional care? It means that God in His divine wisdom has provided for all humanity's needs regardless of our situation. There are no problems, concerns or situations that we may encounter that God had not made provision; this includes sin. We know there are consequences to our decisions. If we choose to obey God and His commands blessings follow whereas being disobedient to His laws and commands punishment follows.

In 1 Peter 5:7 we are encouraged to cast all our cares upon Him. The love nature and sovereignty of God allows Him to make such request because He is able, willing and is true to His promise in providing for all our needs. Philippians 4:19 supports these scriptures in God providing for all mans needs.

If the question were raised, Why must believers suffer? Romans 8:28 encourages us that "all things work together for good," which is to say that when we as believers suffer in this life as we will God will bring good out of our suffering (trials, afflictions, persecutions) God is conforming us to the likeness of His Son Jesus Christ and the end results is glorification (v. 29) as all believers are the elect of God and in the corporate body of Christ-His church who is glorified.

It can be concluded that whatever we as believers may experience in this life God is present through His Spirit-the Holy Spirit.

Prayer and Healing

2 Kings 13:14; Matthew 6:10

Throughout the week I have the opportunity to pray for and with many requesting prayer and counseling, which led me to revisit an earlier writing A Divine Healing (March 2011) where it was defined as the process of being cured of something, to repair or to be made whole again. There is physical, emotional and spiritual healing and sometimes one requires a healing from all three. On many occasions during Jesus' earthly ministry, He healed a physical condition to address the spiritual condition.

In our prayers I encourage listeners to align his or her will with God's will (Matthew 6:10) because His will is going to be accomplished. Aligning our wills with God's will is acknowledging that His thoughts are far superior to our and His desires for us is always best. It is noteworthy to say that often times when we pray we ask God to heal the sick while forgetting that not all healing occurs on this side of life (2 Kings 13:14). When healing occurs on the other side of life all pain and suffering is over, all sorrows are gone, heartaches and troubles have ceased. When a love one transitions from this life to the next life and is in Christ there is no need to worry, because the person is resting in the presence of God.

Have faith in your prayers and know that God hears and answers prayers as healing occurs here or in the hereafter.

The Lord Is My Shepherd

Psalm 23

Today's discussion takes a reflective look at the Lord being our shepherd because when we look around and reflect on the goodness of God we see His love, grace and mercy that springs new each morning as fresh dew from heaven.

The verb "is' means the presence of God not that He was or will be, but He is with us constantly and remains so through His Spirit until we get to heaven where we will meet Him in person.

The Lord as our shepherd provides for our every need and protects us from all hurt harm or danger. The analogy of sheep and shepherd is what this psalm is about because humanity is His sheep and the world is His pasture. It conveys complete trust in God for all our needs. Lastly, each verse in the 23rd Psalm depicts the Lord as our shepherd and that His goodness lasts for ever. What a mighty good God!

Believers Blessed By God (June 9, 2011)

Luke 24:50; Deuteronomy 28:12

And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lift up his hand, and blessed them (24:50). The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow (28:12).

Our scripture text outlines blessings promised by God for His people, and they are:
a) Believers receive a divine gift from God, which cause our work to success (Deuteronomy 28:12). This implies the all sufficiency in God as "He supplies all our needs according to His richness in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).

b) God is always present with us (Genesis 26:3) through the Holy Spirit as He dwells in us to lead, guide, protect and to teach us all things. This promise was made to Abraham and passed on to Isaac and to other nations/generations that obey God's commands and live for Him.

c) Believers receive strength, power and help to do His work (Ephesians 3:16; Colossians 1:11). What this means is that our inner man is strengthened by God's Spirit as the two (God and man) aligns and believers operate under the direction and influence of the Holy Spirit.

d) Lastly, God is working through us to produce good works (Philippians 2:13). It is God's grace that is at work in the lives of believers creating the desire and power to do the will of God. This scripture authenticates receiving power from God through the Holy Spirit.

All humanity is blessed, but believers have a double portion of blessing from God as we are His children. Believers have salvation, sanctification and power to serve (2 Thessalonians 2:13-17).

A Life of Plenty (June 7, 20110)

John 10:10

The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life; and that they might have it more abundantly.

If we were to define the word "abundantly" it means to abound which is to say having a plenty of something or to abound in something, which again is to overflow with something 1 Thessalonians 3:12; Proverbs 28:20).

Our lesson study focus is on having life more abundantly, which is living life in its fullness, not referring to material possessions, but a full life in Christ Jesus. All believers have an abundance of His love, grace and mercy, which overflows our cup daily. It is a blessing to have a good shepherd (v 10) that gave His life for His sheep (humanity) and then lead us to an abundant life one where we will spend eternity with Him.

Let me just say that no one can have this abundant life neither will one know and or experience the fullness of life apart from Jesus Christ our Savior and His indwelling-Spirit (John 10:14-15; Romans 8:1-2, 9-11). Who else but Christ would lay down His life for sinful man? Who else can, will and does provide for all humanity's needs? Only the good shepherd Jesus Christ (v 11).

With that being said, the question now becomes, What must one do to have an abundant life? Accept Jesus Christ as his or her personal Savior. He is more than enough.

Count It All Joy

James 1:2-3

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that they trying of your faith worketh patience; But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire wanting nothing.

This discussion is to provide encouragement when we encounter adverse situations as our scripture text provides the reason for counting all situations as joy. Our scripture text outlines two characteristics that are important in our faith walk with Jesus, and they are faith and patience. Faith is the key component to our accepting Jesus as our personal Savior and patience is essential because nothing happens overnight. Yes, we live in a microwave society where everything is instant, but it doesn't work that way with God. He moves in His time not man. Patience is a virtue. Ask for patience as it works perfection in the lives of all believers.

We are joyous when things are well with us, then why not rejoice when adversity come upon us. Adversities maybe God's permissive will to prune all unnecessary weights of hindrance that impedes our faith growth in Him as this maybe the results of Him calling you to service and the called has rejected His call. Whatever the situation is ask God for wisdom and understanding of the situation, and then grow from the situation.

Another school of thought on counting it all joy is that our Savior Jesus Christ suffered, then why not you and I? Christ told His followers that they would suffer because the world hated Him and it would hate His followers as well. We have the assurance that Christ conquerored all and we are conquerors in Him; therefore, don't worry or fret when adversities arise just count it all joy.

In the words of a song I often listen to, "get out of my way don't try to block me, I am running for Jesus I going to make it to the finish line" (partial paraphrasing, artist unknown). Also, in the words of Mark Jackson a basketball sports announcer, when a player makes a great move to the basket he says, "Get out of my way I have an appointment with the rim." Tell Satan and all adversities the same, get out of my way I have an appointment with Jesus."

The Need For Salvation

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

Salvation has been defined numerous times, but the meaning remains the same which is being delivered from harm or danger, or bondage. For the purpose of our discussion; salvation was provided to all mankind by God's grace through faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The need for salvation is the result of sin where God the Father pronounced the whole world guilty (vv 9-19). Salvation was first offered to the Jews and they refused, then to the Gentiles and they refused as well, which resulted in the righteous judge-God giving His ruling-guilty.

With the whole world being found guilty humanity was doomed to feel the wrath of God, but in His mercifulness God gave His only Son Jesus Christ to redeem man from the clutches of sin and Satan.

Christ's atoning work on Calvary justified man before God (v. 24); therefore, when God looks at man He sees the righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ, because Christ took on man's sins and all who believe is made right with God.

What salvation depicts are God's love, grace and mercy, because mercy replaced justice-punishment. Sin spells a broken fellowship whereas salvation is a restored fellowship. Our spiritual freedom is free to all who believe, because Christ paid our sin bill.

Thank You Lord for salvation, now I am free to live holy unto You in Jesus name Amen.

Commissed To Spread The Gospel

Matthew 28:19-20

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

This is a powerful commission given by Christ Himself to all believers--the church as whole and individual believers as well.

If the church fails in its mission of preaching, and teaching the gospel of Christ who else will? Christ established His church for this purpose and He set an example by sending His disciples into the world to continue His gospel message. The question now becomes, How can the unsaved become saved unless he hears the Word of God from the church-believers? When the unsaved come to Christ, we are to baptize them with water through immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, and there is only one Lord, one baptism and one salvation. Obeying the Great Commission, believers are to make disciples of new converts so they too can make other disciples. New converts are to be taught holy living with the aid of the Holy Spirit as we are to be prime examples of holy living.

Christ promised to be with His followers always in spreading His gospel and He has remained true to His Word. His presence is felt through the Holy Spirit and regardless of any condition or situation He is there to solve problems, answer fears, anxieties and doubts.
Spread the gospel for He is with you.

When we speak of the "righteousness of God" we are referring to the redemptive work in regards to humanity's sin. It is God's justification which puts all believers in a right relationship with God. God's redemptive activity liberates all believers from the bondage of sin and Satan. This is because mankind lacked the ability to free him or herself from sin slave bondage. The righteousness of God comes to all who believe as a free gift through His Son Jesus Christ. It is noteworthy to say that God's righteousness is continuous and will last forever.

This free gift is salvation and the only requirement from God is to believe on His Son Jesus and accept Him as our personal Savior. Remember what is free to us was costly to God and His Son, but because of a broken fellowship and God's desire for a restored relationship His redemptive activity was executed--salvation.

How can we today witness to the righteousness of God? We do so by remembering the day we were saved by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ as we are no longer bound by sin and destined for eternal separation.

We are living testimonies to God's righteousness by our personal encounter with Jesus.

Empowered To Witness

Acts 1:8

But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The background for our scripture text is after Christ's resurrection before His ascension into heaven; He gave His disciples instructions regarding the coming Holy Spirit. They were to remain in "Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father"(v. 4), and that shortly thereafter they would receive the Holy Ghost.

Our lesson text describes what was to happen in the promised coming of the Holy Ghost; they would receive power, this was a special power to do the works of the Lord. This power gives the ability and authority to cast out devils, heal the sick and perform many others miraculous wonders. Also, receiving Holy Ghost power causes the believer to boldly witness Christ (4:29) with great power (4:33) the world over.

After receiving the Holy Ghost, Christ followers were to begin their aggressive witnessing in Jerusalem, to Judea, Samaria and the world over. With the newly received power Christian witness is powerful and effective as many will come to Christ as they did on the day of Pentecost and continues today when Holy Ghost filled witnessing is done.

Spirit-filled believers have the power to do great things while carrying the message of Christ, hope and forgiveness of sins to the lost so they may be saved.
There is power in witnessing Christ!

Spirit VS Flesh

Galatians 5:1-25

…Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

If the question was raised, Who is in control? God is in control as He is the essence of our being from birth to death and the more Christians develop a meaningful relationship with God and totally commits him or herself to Him through the Holy Spirit, then walking in the Spirit becomes second nature. The flesh is torn by the desires of the eye which are pleasing because of Satan's false presentations. What pleases the flesh is temporary, but what pleases the Spirit is everlasting.

Christians are constantly bombarded with Satan's attacks in his masterful scheme of derailing God's plan of kingdom building, but all believers are dressed for spiritual warfare as recorded in Ephesians 6:11-18. Notice if you will all weapons in this war are defensive except one, the Word of God (sword of the Spirit). This is what we use to attack Satan on his own turf; as Christians are to take the fight to Satan through our Bible study, meditation, prayer and witnessing Christ the world over.

If we walk in the Spirit, then we kill the desires of the flesh, because we are living in the Spirit (v. 25).

Yield to God and His Spirit and walk therein.

Repentance and Healing

Jeremiah 3:11-12, 22

Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return thou backsliding Israel, saith the Lord; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you; for I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger for ever…Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings; Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the Lord our God.

The nation of Israel had continued in its waywardness until God's punishment caused them to be led into captivity. The prophet Jeremiah was proclaiming what thus saith the Lord in an attempt to get Israel to repent and turn back to God. Verse 11 provides a glimpse of the magnitude to Israel's treacherousness as it had become worse than that of Judah. Through it all God's love remained strong and desired that Israel turn back to Him as He does with sinners today.

The main message in today's lesson is that God's love forgives each time a sinner repents of his or her sinful ways as there is spiritual healing in repentance. Only God can heal mankind of his backsliding as this is evidenced through His Son Jesus Christ. Because of God's love, He made all provisions for humanity to repent and be saved.

Repentance requires three steps, admission, confession and turning away from sin to righteousness. Just as repentance was proclaimed then, the same message is being proclaimed today. Have you heard the message?
Repent and be healed.

Christ The True Vine

John 15:1-2

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away, and every branch beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

What is Jesus teaching in this parable? He is teaching that He is the Christ the one and only Savior (true vine) and all who come to Him in faith have life and apart from Him there is no life. The other message here is that Disciples of Christ must remain in Him to bear fruit and if and when the fruit bearing ceases then he or she is casted off. With that being said, all believers are expected to bear fruit as this builds the kingdom of God.
How do believers bear fruit? Believers bear fruit through his or her witnessing Christ as believers are the salt of the earth. The earth is to be seasoned by sharing the gospel of Christ and inviting others to believe and join the royal family of God. Fruits of our beliefs are seen by the world through the believer's lifestyle-holy living, and through the believer's fruit bearing, there is growth in the Christian community. God the Father purges/removes any and all obstacles that hinder kingdom building.
All fruit bearing is based on our love for God and others. This represents both vertical and horizontal relationships.
Fruit-bearing Christians bring glory to God and His holiness.

Jesus, The Way, The Truth and The Life

John14:6-7

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also; and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Nearing the end of Jesus' earthly ministry and mission, He was having a conversation with His disciples where He promises to return and for them to "let not their hearts be troubled" (v.1). During the conversation Jesus told His disciples where He was going and they knew how to get there. Thomas refuted Jesus' statement by stating they didn't know where He was going or how to get there. Our lesson study picks up with Jesus telling them that He was "the way, truth and the life" and if anyone comes to the Father they would have to come through Him. This is a profound fact because it embodies salvation as Jesus is the way back to God, because Jesus took on humanity's sins; therefore, when God the Father looks at man He sees the righteousness of His Son.

Furthermore, Jesus is the final revelation of God the Father as He is God. Therefore, it stands to reason that Jesus expected His disciples to recognize God the Father in Him. His disciples had traveled with Jesus for three long years and had witnessed all that He had done and taught and should have concluded that He and the Father were one (vv. 7-11).
Jesus is the way, truth and life for He is God.

God's Glory Revealed

1 Corinthians 2:8; John 1:14

And the Word was made flesh dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:14). Which none of the princes of this world knew; for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory (1 Corinthians 2:8).

Today's lesson study focus is on the glory of God, which is glorified through His Son Jesus Christ. Our first scripture describes Jesus being the Word of God who was made of flesh as He walked the earth. His disciples traveled with Jesus and witnessed the many signs and wonders He performed authenticating His deity; yet many failed to recognize Him as the begotten Son of God the Father.

When did Jesus existence begin? Jesus was there in the beginning with His Father and upon His earthly arrival was the final revelation of God as His sole purpose was to bring salvation to the world. Therefore, Paul in our second lesson study text answers an implied question would the princes/rulers of this would have crucified our Lord? Hopefully, the answer would have been no, because after the events that occurred on that Friday, many recognized Jesus as Lord. Prophecy had to be fulfilled and His death was eminent as He had to die only to rise again on Sunday morning.

With that being said, God continues to reveal His glory in many ways; the rising and setting of the sun daily, the moon and stars performing their task on schedule, nature obeying His commands and the seasons changing without any delay. Each time we look at our self and our fellow man we see the glory of God and as each believer witness and live holy lives, His glory is manifested even more.
Look around you and see God's glory-it is everywhere.

Blessings of Salvation

Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Salvation carries blessings that all believers receive upon accepting Jesus Christ as his or her personal Savior, and they are:
a) Redemption is that all believers have been ransomed (bought/redeemed) with the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ paid our sin debt. This gives each believer the blood bought right to come boldly to God in prayer with supplication and thanksgiving.

b) Justification is that believers have been justified (acquitted of all sins), or declared righteous in the sight of God. Justification is the finished work of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:24; Ephesians 2:8).

c) Regeneration is the believer's new birth (John 3:3). This is taking on the life of Christ as the Holy Spirit abides in each believer (Romans 8:9). Believers become new creatures in Christ.

d) Sanctification is each believer being set apart from sin so that all believers may have an intimate relationship with God to serve Him. Sanctification comes by faith in God (Acts 26:18), union with Christ in His death and resurrection (John 15:4-10; Romans 6:1-11; 1 Corinthians 1:30), by Christ's blood (1 John 1:7-9), by the Word (John 17:17), and the regenerating and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit in the believer's heart (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Romans 8:13; 1 Corinthians 6:11; Philippians 2:12-13; 2 Thessalonians 2:13).

Given the overall sin cleansing process and the blessings received who wouldn't want to be saved?

Jesus' Seven last Words

Luke 23:34; John 19:26-30, Mark 15:34

Today being what is commonly referred to as Good Friday; however, I prefer to refer to this day as the day my Lord was crucified fulfilling prophecy. Reflect with me if you will on the last seven words Jesus spoke and consider what they mean to each of us.

Let’s begin with the phrase “Father, forgive them”, Jesus is asking His father to forgive the persons carrying out this treacherous act. Consider this thought for a moment, Jesus asking the Father to forgive all humanity for our sins. What love! Jesus was nailed to the cross from 9AM to noon suffering excruciating pain while bearing the sins of the world expresses pure love. His second words “To day shalt thou be with me in paradise” (v 43) speaks of salvation to all who trust Him as Lord and Saviour. This peak to the issue of some will recognize Jesus for who He really is and accept Him while desiring to spend eternity with Him while others will not make the connection or refuse to accept Him as Lord and Saviour. Jesus’ third words speak of love when He utters “Woman, behold thy son…Behold thy mother” (John 19:26-27). What is being displayed during His dying hours is Jesus expressing concerns for the welfare of His mother while leaving her in the trusted hands of someone who would care for her every need. Also, these words give children the responsibility caring for their dependent parents.

According to scripture during the three hours of darkness from noon until 3 PM Jesus spoke no words. During those hours of darkness history records that all of the elements of nature went out of control as we know them to operate. The earth acted as if it was drunk, the sun refused to shine; you could say it turned its face toward heaven and looked at the Father, saying “I cannot watch Your Son die.” The moon hid itself. About 3 o’clock Jesus began to speak what is considered spiritual words on this order, “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Mark 15:34; Matthew 27:46). This phrase depicts the separation Jesus experienced from His father as the sinner’s substitute. These words can be looked upon as the apex of Christ’s suffering for a lost world and the Father could not look on His Son dying for all humanity’s sins. The thought of Christ dying forsaken so mankind would never be forsaken should make us all shout Hallelujah! Thank God for Jesus! Next Christ addresses His physical need, again fulfilling scripture by saying “I thirst” (John 19:28); they gave Jesus vinegar to quench His thirst. From this we see again prophecy being fulfilled according to Psalm 69:21. Christ’s victory/triumph over death and sin states “It is finished” (John19:30). This phrase states that Christ’s earthly mission was complete. He had fulfilled all prophecies. He had completed the redemptive work as the sacrificial Lamb of God by shedding His blood as atonement for sin. He had won a decisive victory over Satan. He had reconciled man back to God bridging the spiritual divide that once existed between humanity and God. Finally, when Christ stated “It is finished”, He committed Himself to the Father when He stated “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit” (Luke 23:46). At this point Jesus gave His life over to death and His spirit went home to the Father (Psalm 31:5). Therefore, no one can say that they took Jesus’ life because He came to earth to give His life as a ransom for humanity and through all the physical agony He experienced Christ remained on the cross until the end. Jesus may have died on Friday, but the Saviour Jesus Christ rose on Sunday (Resurrection) morning with all power. I am glad He did what He did! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Jesus' Blood The Cross and Salvation

Romans 3:23-27

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that past, through the forbearance of God;

Today's discussion is designed to raise several thought provoking questions to rekindle our appreciation for the price Jesus paid for our salvation. The first question that come to mind is, When you look at the cross what do you see? Do you see just a man or our Saviour, God's Son being crucified for the sins of the world as God the Father pronounced the whole guilty before Him? Do you see salvation through Christ's sacrificial death and through His shed blood salvation is made available to all who believe in Him? Do you see Christ's death as our substitute as mankind lacked the ability to pay his own sin debt? Do you see that by Christ's death guilt and the power of sin being annulled and man being reconciled back to God? Do you see through the propitiation by Christ's blood God's holiness remaining uncompromised and His love, grace and mercy on display? Do you see Christ's victory over sin, death and Satan, and all who believe in Him being liberated and are now free to serve God with all our being?

In the redemptive process the most important component is faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This is the only requirement that God has for our salvation (Romans 3:22).

Without faith there is no salvation.

Passion Week

Luke 19:28-44

In today's topical discussion we will reflect on the events that occurred leading to Jesus' Crucifixion and Resurrection.

On Friday Jesus arrives in Bethany which was six days before the Passover celebration to spend time with Mary, Martha and Lazarus His friends (John 12:1). It was during this visit that Mary anointed Jesus' feet with her expensive perfume as an act of humility and expressing her willingness to serve Him.

Saturday Jesus spent time resting as this day is the Day of Rest-Sabbath, as there is no mention of activities except rest in the Gospels.

On Sunday Jesus made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-19). The crowd cried Hosanna and laid Psalm branches down before Him.

Monday He cleansed the temple of money changers, drove out the crowd and turned over the tables (Matthew 21:10-17; Mark 11:15-18; Luke 19:45-48).

Tuesday the Gospels records this day as one of Controversy and Parables because of the events that occurred. The priest tried to trap Jesus, but He evaded their traps. He taught the people warning them against the Pharisees and their tactics. Jesus predicted the destruction of Herod's temples and taught His disciples about His return and other future events.

Wednesday. This can be seen as a another Day of Rest, because the Gospels records no events occurring. Mark 14:1 does records this, "After two days was the feast of the Passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death." The religious leaders plotting to kill our Savior. However, everything worked according to God's divine plan.

Thursday-Passover Last Supper (Matthew 26:17-30; Mark 14:12-26; Luke 22:7-23; John 13:1-30). This meal took place in the Upper Room with Jesus and His disciples this is where He gave new meaning to Passover. The bread represented His broken body and the wine represented His shed blood for all humanity's sins. Jesus and His disciples sang hymns after which they went into the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed because He knew His hour was at hand. He was arrested by the Romans soldiers.

Friday-Crucifixion (Matthew 27:1-66; Mark 15:1-47; Luke 22:66-23:556; John 18:28-19:37). Jesus was hung on the cross between two thieves, where one asked for remembrance while the other failed to recognize Jesus as Lord and Savior. Jesus endured horrendous pain during His hours of crucifixion. Several dramatic events took place during those hours. The earth reeled and rocked like a drunken man, the sun refused to shine, the moon hid itself. The veil in the temple tore from top to bottom, and the earth became dark as night at mid-day.

Friday Evening Jesus was placed in a borrowed Tomb. It was the Jewish custom His body be placed in the tomb before 6: PM Friday night because it was the beginning of the Sabbath and all work ceased. Jesus lay in the tomb Friday night and Saturday, but O! Sunday morning! Thank God for Sunday morning and the empty tomb.

Resurrection Sunday (Matthew 28:1-13; Mark 16: 1-20; Luke 23:50-56; John 19:38-42). When the women arrived at Jesus' tomb prepared to anoint His body, they found an empty tomb and the angel told them that Jesus was alive and instructed them what to tell His disciples.

Hosanna

Mark 11:1-11; Psalm 118:25-26; Matthew 21:9, 15; John 12:13

The term "Hosanna" means save now and is derived from the Greek form of the Hebrew phrase "hoshana" or "hosanna" (Zondervan's Pictorial Dictionary P. 861). In Psalm 118:25, the term "Hosanna" save now is a prophecy of salvation through Christ's sacrificial death. This prophecy was fulfilled on Calvary's cross. The term later became an expression of praise which is what the people were shouting.

During Jesus' triumphal entry into to Jerusalem He was met by a throng of people saying, "Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of our Lord: Hosanna in the highest" (vv 9-10). The crowd failed to understand the purpose of Jesus coming to earth, which was to provide salvation through His death and Resurrection. The crowd wanted Jesus to restore Israel to national prominence and rule the nation, but this wasn't His time to establish His earthly kingdom. This same crowd turned on Jesus and cried "Crucify him" when their wishes weren't fulfilled. One week they praised Jesus and days later they pleaded for Pilate to kill Him-our Savior (Mark 15:12-14). Man's fickleness is unlike God's faithfulness. Christ is worthy of continued praise.

An Everlasting God

Psalm 90:1-4 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

Many nay sayers have been trying to refute the existence of the true and living God for many years, but in their noblest effort they have failed. This is because the only justification for all of creation is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He is the only God that has existed since the beginning of time and will exist forever. Isn't it a blessing to know that the God of the universe lives for all the ages and has been present and will continue to be until eternity?

There are many gods, but there is only one God, who creates, sustains, protects, provides for and saves His prized creation. Our everlasting Triune God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for the sins of the world so that the broken fellowship is restored. What a mighty God?

Verse 2 gives insight into the infinite of our everlasting God, which states that God existed before the mountains, earth and the world were formed, He was in existence.

Only the Triune God can make such declaration of His existence. Which God do you acknowledge and serve? The Almighty God!

The Works of God

Psalm 66:1-20 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men. He turned the sea into dry land; they went through the flood on foot; there did we rejoice in him.

What are these verses saying? First, the writer is speaking to a community of believers who must have the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in their midst in order for them to glorify God. This is because believers have experience in the convicting work of the Holy Spirit and can recognize the powerful works of God. Believers recognize the majestic beauty of God in every aspect of life as nature beholds His wonders and powers. Nature worships God in its own way and so must believers worship God as He has set forth.

When believers recognize and reverence the terrible (magnificent) works of God then they can say to other "come and see the works of God" it is then that the unsaved will believe because they too will see His mighty works. This includes believers giving personal testimony of God's saving powers through His grace and mercy at work in our lives (v 16).

Verse 6 alludes to the mighty works of God when He made a highway through the Red Sea and the nation of Israel walked through on dry land. God will wall partition the trouble waters in your life if you trust in Him and cast all your cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7).

Lastly, sharing the gospel of Christ we are never alone as Christ promised His presence, authority and power to accompany us when we witness Him to the lost souls of this world. The mighty works of God is still being manifested today.

The Presence of God

Psalm 46:1-7 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. The Lord of host is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

The essence of this psalm is to provide comfort in the time of trials and tribulations, because at some point in our lives we will experience stress, anxiety, and spiritual barrenness (psalm 44). What one must do in these times is to remember these are not normal times and it is God's desire for His people to be near Him for He is there with help and comfort. We must put our complete trust in God with confidence that He will and we know that He is able to deliver us from all anxieties and or troubles. Our scripture verse provides all the encouragement needed by stating that He is our refuge. Refuge is a place of shelter which protects from all danger as it provides security during the storms of life. Regarding "strength" it is God's might when we are battling life's storms, which also includes His power to work in us that enables us to conquer or overcome all of life's obstacles. If the question were raised, What is the end result? The end result is God is present and available to His people, but He wants us to call on Him for help in the time of need. He answers sincere faithful prayers. We need not fear for He is sufficient. The presence of an All Mighty God, what a blessing!

Lent

What is the meaning of lent? Lent is the season of fasting, praying and almsgiving the 40 days before Easter. Merriam-Webster Dictionary (P. 506) defines lent as "a period of penitence and fasting observed during the 40 weekdays from Ash Wednesday to Easter by many churches." Lent is six and a half weeks or forty days preceding Easter/Resurrection Sunday the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is known as lent. Forty (40) days is significant in the Christian Community because Jesus fasted 40 days and nights in the wilderness before beginning His earthly ministry. The practice of fasting during lent season is where the participant usually gives up something (a less desirable food or a bad habit) that is replaced with something useful. The focus of fasting and praying is repentance and consecrating ourselves back to God. Keep in mind that believers are a set aside people and are to live holy lives before God. Therefore, when we fast and pray it is done to God in Jesus name. The question now becomes, Do we fast and pray only during lent season? No because prayer should be part of our daily lives. Prayer, daily Bible reading and meditation are the believer's communication with God for the purpose of establishing a closer relationship with Him. In doing so we spend time alone with God for His strength and power that will enable us to overcome self's fleshy desires. Therefore, if fasting is your practice during lent season, be mindful that Christ died for the sins of the world and all believers died with Him to sin and rose with Him to a new life. Then let us put away all sinful deeds that hinder our faith journey with Christ. We fast to cleanse the body of all sinful deeds that bombard us daily. Convicting Work of the Holy Spirit

John 16:8-10

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.

In today's discussion we will focus on the Holy Spirit and His convicting work of reproving the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. The term "reprove' is to convict, expose, refute, and convince one of something.
The Holy Spirit exposes sin and humanity's unbelief to awaken a conscious need for salvation. Sin brings about a separation from God our creator, while salvation brings forgiveness of sin and a restored relationship. His convicting work make clear the guilt and shame brought on by sin and the end result is being eternally separated from God. A convicted heart then turns from sin and wrong doings to a heart of righteousness in Christ and accept Him as Lord and Savior for He is the one who died for the sins of the world.
The Holy Spirit convinces the convicted hearts that Jesus is the Righteous Son of God who became man's propitiator and all righteousness is in Jesus Christ and God's standards is man's plum line for holy living. The Holy Spirit Himself gives all believers the power to overcome the world's sinfulness because He resides in each believer.
The Holy Spirit's work regarding judgment is that He convinces all who believe that Satan is a defeated foe (John 12:31). The Holy Spirit reminds all of God's judgment of this present world as outlined in Romans 1:18-32 and how God will judge the entire human race as outlined in Matthew 16:27; Acts 17:31; 24:25 Romans 14:10; 1 Corinthians 6:2; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Jude 14.
It can be concluded then that the Holy Spirit convicts people of their sins, make mankind aware of God righteousness and His judgment.

What happens when believers come together on one accord in fellowship, the breaking of bread, in prayer and teaching the gospel? The Holy Spirit is in the midst and disciples are made and the church grows as it is added to daily. This is because others who see this phenomenon will and join this community (the church). The community of believers is given power to boldly witness Christ and to do many miracles through signs and wonders.
The power of the Holy Spirit empowers the church.

The Dove-The Holy Spirit A Symbol of Peace

If one should ask the question, Who is the Holy Spirit? He is the third person in the Godhead. Many times I have heard people refer to the Holy Spirit as it, let me assure you He is God. His divine attributes as part of the Godhead: He is eternal, omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. Being part of the Godhead, He operates coequally, coeternally, and coextistently with God the Father and God the Son-Jesus Christ. It was during Christ's baptism that all members of the Godhead were witnessed by John the Baptist and others. Jesus God's Son came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit came down from heaven as a dove and rested on Christ and the voice of God the Father spoke authenticating that Jesus Christ is His Son.
There are several symbols that represent the Holy Spirit which are: (a) Wind, (b) fire, (c) water (d) oil, (e) a seal and (f) a dove which symbolizes peace. For today's discussion our focus will be the dove symbol which represents the Holy Spirit. A dove represents peace, honesty, purity as the bird itself is clean, faithful to its mate, peaceful, gentle and innocent. The Holy Spirit produces dove like qualities in all believers who yield to His teachings. God is faithful to His people and desires all to live in peace. John 14:27 speaks of the peace of God as only He can give. This is because God's peace is lasting unlike that of the world.
The peace of God surpasses all other.

When God Speaks

John 14:27; Matthew 8:23-27

What happens when God speaks? Peace comes to the situation. Notice if you will when Jesus and His disciples were on a boat going to Gadara and the Sea of Galilee became turbulent from a raging storm and the men on board concluded that death was imminent, but someone remembered that Jesus was on board (Matthew 8:23-27). Jesus rose and calmly spoke to "the winds and the sea and said to the sea "Peace be still" (Mark 4:39). There was a great calm for they obeyed. God is still speaking to all mankind today. He is speaking through nature and in the quietness of our busy lives a still small voice will speak to the nature of our souls saying "Peace be still I am in control." God spoke to His prophet Elijah in a small still voice, while Elijah was listening for God's voice in the strong wind, the earthquake, and the fire, but God didn't speak then (1 Kings 19:11-13). What does this say about God speaking? God wants our attention and He can use the forces of nature to get it, and then He speaks very quietly.
When God speaks all fears, doubts, confusion and discomfort are removed, because He speaks with clarity and authority. God is speaking, I hear Him what about you?

Confidence In The Lord

Psalm 27:1-3

There are times when our confidence is shaken as we travel life's journey; our scripture text encourages us to remain confident in God, because He is our refuge and salvation. Knowing who God is these questions beg an answer, who are we to dread, who are we to fear? My answer is no one. We are to fear the Lord in reverence for His awesomeness as He is our creator and sustainer.
Throughout biblical history and personal testimony God has been faithful to His Word and His presence is a constant through His Spirit-the Holy Spirit. He is our deliverer, Savior-Jesus Christ, Comforter and Sealer-the Holy Spirit. What a mighty God!
Be confident for God is with you.

God Cares

In times of trouble and we see no way out and it appears that you are all alone remember God cares. He promised never to leave nor forsake His children. He has proven to be faithful to His Word. He promised to supply all your needs (Philippians 4:19). Psalm 23:1-6 tell of God being our shepherd providing for all our needs. If you need a comforter God is there in the presence of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). When you need a helper God the Holy Spirit is there (James 1:5). God provided salvation through our Lord and Jesus Christ our Savior who died for us. Believe on Him. (John 3:16).

Divine Healing II

Psalm 103:1-3; James 5:16; John 15:7

In today's discussion we will conclude our topical discussion on Divine Healing by highlighting some hindrance to healing and what steps that we can take toward healing.
Let's examine scripture and see what the Bible has to say on the subject matter; James 5:16 encourages us to confess our faults one to another and then pray because prayers of the righteous availeth much. Another hindrance is demonic oppression and bondage as recorded in Luke 13:11-13. Proverbs 3:5-8 presents fear and or anxiety as another hindrance to our healing, which encourages complete trust in the Lord and refrains from depending on our own understanding because God's ways and understanding far exceed ours. Mark 5:26 highlights past disappointments could have an affect on our present faith as it was with the woman with the issue of blood. Sometimes unbelieving or doubtful people can be an interference (Mark 10:48). What we are to do is increase our faith and persist even more, because it is our healing we seek. Then we have the misinterpretation of God's Word or taking traditions over biblical facts (Mark 3:1-5; 7:13). Did we seek the prayer of faith from the elders of the church (Mark11:22-24; James 5:14-16)? Is the church exercising its spiritual gift of healing as God intended (Acts 4:29-30)? Then there is our own unbelief and self-centered behavior (1 Corinthians 11:29-20). The question now becomes why pray for a healing if there is unbelief or the failure to remove self?
All healing is done according to God's will and whatever we ask God for and or do are to be aligned with His Will. With that being said let's see we can do in our healing process. The first step is to pray seeking God's healing as we are to have a right relationship with God and others (Matthew 6: 33; 1 Corinthian 11:27-30; James 5:16). Second, we are to seek Christ's presence in our lives as He gives the necessary faith needed in all situations (Romans 12:3; 1 Corinthians 12:9; Philippians 2:13). The third thing we can do is submerge our lives with God's Word as He sends forth His Word to heal (John 15:7; Romans 10:7; Psalm 107:20). What we know about God's Word is that it will be fulfilled as He watches over His promises (Jeremiah 1:12). The other fact is that God always keep His promise. Fourth, we are to call for prayers of faith from the elders of the church with the anointing of oil, prayers from family members and friends (James 5:14-16). Fifth, we are to expect a miracle by trusting in God's healing powers (Matthew 7:8; 19:26). If we pray and ask God to heal us, then expect it. The sixth step is to rejoice whether we are healed in this life or in our other life; just simply rejoice (Philippians 4:4; 11-13). God's timing is not ours. If healing is delayed, then ask ourselves what changes God wants to make in our lives. This is because God always see what we do not. The last two things we can do is to remain in prayer and faithful to God, knowing that God's delay is not necessarily a no, but is testing our faith and commitment to Him as He has a greater purpose in mind for us for His glory. As God's children He will never forsake nor leave us. All of what has been said is to coincide with proper medical care as it is approved in scripture (Matthew 9:12; Luke 10:34).
The purpose of these two lesson discussions were to enlighten and bring into remembrance what scripture has to say on healing. God is still healing!

A Divine Healing

Matthew 8:16-17; Exodus 15:26

For the next two days our topical discussion will be Divine Healing and the reason why healing is warranted and what provisions God has made for healing.
What is healing? Healing is the process of being cured of something, to repair or to be made whole again. There is physical, emotional and spiritual healing and sometimes one requires a healing from all three. On many occasions during Jesus' earthly ministry, He healed a physical condition to address the spiritual condition.
Let us look at the underpinnings that resulted in humanity requiring a healing. The fall of our first family Adam and Eve is the consequences of their disobedience or their fall from God's grace. Therefore, sin and death is the result of such fall and sickness and diseases is concluded to be intertwined with the two. The Bible makes a strong argument that the root of the problem stems from two causes (a) sin which affects both physical and spiritual (John 5:5;15), and (b) Satan who is the author of all lies and deceit (Acts 10:38; Mark 9:17, 20, 25; Luke 13:11; Acts 19:11-12). It was Satan and his lies that deceived Eve and since then sin and diseases has been on an upward spiral.
We have discussed the root cause; let's explore God's redemptive provision in the matter. In God's redemptive plan, for sin He provides forgiveness, for death He provides a resurrected and eternal life, and for sickness God provides healing (Psalm 103:1-5; Luke 4:18; 5:17-26; James 5:14-15). What a loving God!
The question now becomes, How does Jesus' threefold ministry tie into God's redemptive provision? Jesus' threefold earthly ministry is teaching God's Word, preaching repentance, which addresses the sin problem, while the blessings from repentance is receiving God's eternal and resurrected life; this addresses the death issue, and Christ healed every kind of sickness, diseases and infirmities that was among the people (Matthew 4:23-24) which addresses healing.
Jesus Christ is God's Son and salvation was and remains embodied in Him as He carried out the Will of God. With that being said, let us examine God's Will concerning healing, sin and death. Let's discuss it from (a) what God promised (b) Jesus ministry (c) His (Christ's) atonement and (d) the healing ministry of the church.
First, God promised health and healing to His people if they remained faithful to Him and obeyed His commandments (Exodus 15:26). It specifically states that "I will put none of these diseases upon thee (this was God's judgment) which I have brought upon the Egyptians". The verse further states, "I am the Lord that healeth thee (the Lord as their Redeemer)." God remains faithful to His promises both then and now.
Second, during Jesus' earthly ministry depicted the very nature and heart of God as Christ is the incarnated Son of God and healing was a normal part of Christ's earthly ministry. A major purpose of Christ's ministry was to heal all who were sick and oppressed by Satan and his demonic schemes to destroy man. Christ healed both individuals and groups; all who were sick and was brought to Him.
Third, Christ's atoning death was complete and sufficient within itself to redeem the whole man; his spirit, body and soul. Since sin and sickness are the two-pronged attacks used by Satan to destroy mankind it is only befitting that forgiveness and healing are the two pronged blessings designed by God to redeem man and restore wholeness once again (Psalm 103:3). What must believers do to receive the full benefit of God's blessings of healing and Christ's atonement? All believers must remain steadfast in faith and humility to receive the full provisions of Christ's atonement which includes healing of the body. It is noteworthy to say that not all healing occur on this side of Jordan (life); only if it's God's Will.
Fourth, the church plays an important part in healing. Remember Jesus sent out His 12 disciples to heal the sick as part of their preaching the gospel of Christ (Luke 9:1-26). Next, Christ commissioned and sent 70 disciples to do the same work (Luke 10:1, 9-9; 19). After the day of Pentecost, the church was commissioned to carry on Jesus' healing ministry as part of the gospel message (Acts 3:1-10; 4:30; 5:16; 8:7; 9:34; 14:8-10). New Testament scriptures outlines three specifics methods for God's healing power and faith is to occur in the church's healing ministry, and they are (a) the laying on of hands (Mark 16:15-18; Acts 9:17), (b) by confessing ones known sin, which is to be followed by anointing the sick with oil followed by the prayer of faith (James 5:14-16), and (c) exercising the spiritual gifts of healing given to the church by God (1 Corinthian 12:9).
What we can conclude from this discussion is that because of disobedience sin and death entered the human race, but because of God and His love we have forgiveness, eternal life and His healing.
On Friday we will conclude our topical discussion by discussing what hinders our healing and what steps can we take to be made whole again?

God's Relationship to Our Suffering

Job 2: 7-8

Continuing our earlier topical discussion on suffering and the righteous; today our objective is to answer two questions which are, what is God's Relationship to our suffering and what victory do we have over suffering? Let's answer the first question by reflecting on the beginning of Job when a meeting was being held in heaven and Satan crashed the party. God gave Satan permission to afflict Job. What this tells us is that God is in control and all situations are under His permissive will (Job 1-2). 1 Corinthians 10:13 also reminds us of God's promise that He will not allow us to be tested beyond what we can bear.
Second, God has promised to bring good out of suffering for all who love Him and obey His commands (Romans 8:28). Look at Joseph and how he suffered and was blessed by God for doing so (Genesis 50:20). Hebrews 12:5 reminds us that God will use our pain and suffering for our growth. This is because after we have come through the fiery trials of suffering we have a story to tell.
Third, there are scriptures of God promising to walk with us through "the valley of the shadow of death" (Psalm 23:4, Isaiah 43:2). Let's be mindful of His all sufficient grace as it is enough to stand with us and comfort us in the time of troubles. He promised never to leave nor forsake us and He does so through the presence of the Holy Spirit--our Comforter.
Fourth and foremost, we have a high priest in Jesus Christ who feels our pain and hears our cry because He "hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows" (Isaiah 53:4). Isaiah 53:5 states that "He was wounded for out transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." What this means is that there is healing in our suffering, because Christ bore it all.
With that being said and knowing that Christ has overcome the world and all that is in it, we then have victory over our suffering. This is the short answer to our second question, but we will look at some reasons why we have victory over our suffering, which are;
(a) We must identify the reasons for the suffering and ask this question, where do I fit in the identified reasons, then take necessary steps to correct the situation.
(b) We must remember that God cares for us deeply as shown in what He has done for mankind. We must never allow our suffering to cause us to turn away from God. His spirit is with us and is there to comfort us during these times.
(c) We must turn to God in sincere pray believing that He does answer the prayers of the righteous. While praying to God, we must learn patience and how to wait on Him because His time differs from our time. Whenever He comes He is always on time.
(d) We must remember that God gives His all sufficient grace which is adequate to bear all of our burdens, afflictions until deliverance.
(e) We will find comfort in reading and mediating on God's Word as there comforting scriptures written especially for comfort. Some are Psalm 11, 16, 23, 27, 40 46, 61, 91, 121, 125 and 138.
(f) While reading and studying God's Word ask for divine revelation and discernment as it relates to your particular situation. God through His word will give us a better understanding for the suffering.
(g) Remember Christ warned us that we will suffer if you are a believer in Him (John 16:33). Believers have an assured hope of a future where God will wipe away all tears. There will be no more crying, death, sorrow or pain (Revelation 21:4).
In can be concluded then that God cares for us even in the midst of our suffering and is with us through the Holy Spirit. We have victory because Christ have conquerored all; therefore, we are conquerors.
